It’s taken 25 months to get here, but the final CMMC 2.0 countdown starts on Tuesday. On Tuesday 12/26/23, the proposed rule will be officially "published" online at https://lnkd.in/g9gx-dBK What follows will be a 60-day public comment period 𝟭𝟮/𝟮𝟲/𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯 - 𝟮/𝟮𝟲/𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 In order for CMMC assessments to start, the DoD needs to respond to public comments in a "final rule". The final rulemaking process typically takes about a year. The DoD will then begin a 5-year phased implementation on new contracts that handle CUI and those contracts will require the prime and all flow down subcontracts to have a third-party CMMC compliance certification. This certification can only be performed by authorized C3PAO’s. All contractors passing this assessment will have a 3-year certification uploaded into a USG database where contracting officers can confirm via CAGE code that companies are eligible to bid on these contracts. All of our previous NIST 800 assessments have shown that it really does take an average of 12-18 months to achieve compliance. CMMC 2.0 is nothing different so we know this is not a situation where Defense Industrial Base companies can sit back and wait for the final rule. Review the Cyber AB website (cyberab.org) for CMMC ecosystem roles and then search the marketplace for approved vendors. Contact DTC’s C3PAO team for assistance - [email protected]
