Why is hands on, real-world experience so essential for students? Robb Berg, Principal of Design Workshop, highlights the importance of shaping the next generation of landscape architects through involvement outside the traditional classroom environment. There is often a gap between the theoretical approach taught in the classroom and the practical application on real projects. "Working for communities and with clients means understanding construction budgets, managing time constraints, navigating material limitations, and many more challenges, all the while trying to create meaningful and impactful work," says Robb. It is important to invest in this upcoming generation of young professionals, and Design Workshop’s Design Week and the Dr. Charles Fountain Internship Program are two examples of how we are providing practical experience for undergraduate and graduate students. To learn more about these programs and the importance of real-world experience for students, click the link below to read Land8: Landscape Architects Network's recent article by our very own Robb Berg. https://lnkd.in/g3SJQKYM #realworldexperience #youngprofessionals #landscapearchitects #internshipprogram #thoughtleadership #involement #practicalexperience #approach #designworkshop

Check out the latest concepts for the Downtown Houston Main Street Promenade. 👀 More Space: Main Street 2.0 is set to expand from Commerce to Allen's Landing, spanning a total of 11 blocks. This exciting development will create a pedestrian-friendly promenade by permanently blocking off traffic. Originally initiated in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to support local businesses by providing space for outdoor dining and gathering, this program received such positive feedback and engagement that the Houston City Council approved its permanent implementation. More Space: Main Street 2.0 seeks to attract more visitors, activate the public realm day and night, enhance mobility, ensure safety, and create a vibrant identity for downtown Houston. The project is currently in its final stages of design and engineering, which include plans for new safety crosswalks, shaded social gathering areas, landscaping, and public art installations. Nurturing Nature in the Mile-High City | Design Workshop https://lnkd.in/eqx2wUTS Catalyzed by a family’s appreciation of horticulture, and their desire to create a distinct place that celebrates its regional setting, the designer forged a transformative vision across three acres, merging nature and nurture. Addressing years of deficient landscape management, the naturalistic sequence of restoration, refuge, and resiliency infuses biodiversity back into the city.
