Parents and caregivers alike need support… family is a team sport.
I’m encouraged to see Vivek Murthy articulate what we often hear from the employers and employees we work with: Life is hard and people need help. Murthy wrote in The New York Times “Parenting at its best is a team sport” and this is true for all forms of caregiving. Whether you’re responsible for a child, a parent, or both, being a caregiver can be overwhelming. We’re proud to offer Papa as an employee benefit, making our network of Papa Pals accessible to parents and caregivers across the country to help with grocery shopping or laundry, spend time with the kids or start dinner while parents finish the work day, take a loved one to the doctor or Fido for a walk. We’re a second set of hands when and how they’re needed because no one person can do this alone.

I learned a new acronym. PICA. It stands for Parents in India, Children Abroad. For many in this group, aging parents is a source of stress and worry, especially due to the logistical challenges of being so far away. But, I recently spoke with someone (who is in the US and has parents in India) who said that he was able to greatly reduce his stress. He and his brother live far away from their parents in India. They visit every couple months but were worried about being thousands of miles away and started looking for solutions.
