We are beyond grateful to Walker & Dunlop Team Hurley and CoBank Faverolles for choosing us as their Charity Partner for the 2024 Colfax Marathon, sponsored by Cigna Healthcare. By affirming their support for our mission and generously gifting us $1,250 and $1,000 respectively to further our work, these incredible businesses are championing commitment to health equity in the financial services industry. Increasing health equity with Denver neighborhoods
About us
Denver Food Rescue is a 501(c)3 non-profit in Denver, Colorado. Our mission is to produce health equity with Denver neighborhoods. We utilize fresh edible whole fruits & veggies that would would otherwise be thrown away from retailers & directly distribute them to neighborhoods in the Denver Metro area with barriers to healthy food access. All of our No Cost Grocery Programs are co-created and led by residents of the communities! Programs are located at schools, community centers, and after school programs. Health equity: At DFR we believe that health is a right that should be enjoyed by everyone. The current system creates health gaps between people, particularly impacting low-income people and people of color. There is no blanket solution to improve the health of our communities. Instead, we need to be intentional about creating access to the services and education each person needs to make informed health decisions. We believe in a world in which a person’s health is not determined by their race, income, or geography. Food security: Each individual deserves to have control of their own food situation. This means to have enough food for themselves and their families, and to not stress about running out. Whether this self determination is made possible through increased wages or increased access, our communities deserve to have the amount and type of food that best serves them. Integration of feedback: DFR believes in constant learning and improvement. We recognize that we alone do not have the answers. Lasting solutions will only be formed through consistent and authentic engagement with people who are experiencing the issues we exist to address. DFR is deferential to the perspectives of these individuals and holds them to the highest regard. We are also informed by evidence-based, scientific research and internal evaluation practices. Where all three of these perspectives overlap (community, scientific, and internal) lies the framework for our actions.

🌟 NCGP Spotlight 🌟 Casa de Rosal is an apartment complex on the Villa Park neighborhood that is home to seniors. Residents disproportionately face barriers accessing nutritious food. Every week, we partner with the residents of Casa de Rosal to operate a No Cost Grocery Program, offering free produce and pantry staples. The program is community-led, which means that the food being provided is curated to address the unique needs and preferences of the residents being served. Rather than participants being handed food by a stranger, they are greeted by their neighbors or fellow Villa Park community members. This structure centers both the dignity and autonomy of the program participants. Thank you to the residents of Casa de Rosal for this incredible partnership!

It’s #foodrecoveryfriday! 🚲 This week, Max recovered 50 cases of Byrishi sparkling tea from What Chefs Want and distributed it to No Cost Grocery Programs across Denver. Instead of going to waste, it was enjoyed by dozens of families that otherwise face barriers accessing nutritious, affordable food. Thank you to Max and our partners for making this recovery possible!

Meet our Youth Couriers! 👋 This Summer, our 5 new youth employees will be riding our e-bikes to recover surplus food from backyard gardeners. Our Youth Food Courier program is funded by the Healthy Food For Denver's Kids grant with the goal to support youth employment opportunities. In partnership with Fresh Food Connect, our Youth Couriers ride e-bikes to pick up produce donations from the homes of backyard gardeners and deliver the produce to No Cost Grocery Programs across the city. We are thrilled to be working with such a passionate group of young food justice advocates this Summer!
