"We Keep The Lights On"

About us

Delaware Electric Cooperative (DEC) is the only not-for-profit electric cooperative in the State of Delaware. Our mission is to provide clean, sustainable and reliable energy to hundreds of thousands of Delaware residents. As a cooperative, we are owned by those we serve — we don’t have customers, we have members! As a not-for-profit utility, we are focused on doing what’s best for our members and employees, not on profits. As part of the energy revolution sweeping the country, we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint, investing in renewable energy, improving lives in our communities, and preparing Delaware for an electrified transportation infrastructure. DEC is recognized as one of the most progressive utilities in the nation. To maintain our high level of consumer satisfaction and our focus on innovation, we are always looking for the next generation of exceptional employees

  • DEC’s manager of public relations Lauren Irby has been a part of the co-op world for nine years – four of which, we’re happy to say, have been spent working for Delaware Electric! Irby says she is proud to work for the Co-op because of its steadfast commitment to upholding cooperative principles and serving its members. In her role at DEC, Irby says it’s a joy to get to know members through community events and hear their feedback firsthand. This National Women’s Month, DEC recognizes Irby and all the women of DEC for the work they do to help keep the lights on!

  • March is National Women’s Month - and today is International Women's Day - and the Co-op is proud to recognize all the work the women of DEC put in every day to ensure the company’s daily operations support its mission to provide the most reliable, affordable and sustainable power possible to our members. Whether they are in the office or out in the field, we celebrate their contributions this month, and every month of the year. Happy National Women’s Month!

  • DEC’s manager of system control Brittany Wagner says that being an engineer at the Co-op requires a balance of mindsets - it involves working to maintain our system’s current standard of reliability, while considering what it will need to continue to grow in the future. Over the past ten years, Brittany and her team have initiated multiple enhancements to the system, including the upgrade from phone lines to high-speed fiber communications, the introduction of Distribution Automation (DA) and many more innovative advancements to better serve our members. This National Engineers Week, DEC recognizes Brittany and all of our amazing engineers for their contributions that help the Co-op keep the lights on!

  • This year, the Co-op announced that Distribution Automation (DA) – technology that minimizes the impact of outages by isolating issues on the lines – is now included in all substations across DEC service territory, a companywide achievement which in large part is credited to the work of our engineers. System engineer Bonard Geyer says one of the most satisfying parts of his job includes the sense of pride he feels knowing that this innovative system his department has developed helps maintain reliability for all DEC members. This National Engineers Week, DEC recognizes Bonard and all of our amazing engineers for their contributions that help the Co-op keep the lights on!

  • DEC system engineer Jenna Bauer joined Team DEC in the fall of 2023. Since then, Bauer says her favorite part about being an engineer is knowing that the work she does directly impacts the communities the Co-op serves in a meaningful way. Plus, no two days on the job are the same, making every day exciting! This National Engineers Week, DEC recognizes Jenna and all of our amazing engineers for their contributions that help the Co-op keep the lights on!

  • DEC’s ability to provide members with the most reliable power possible depends heavily on the field of data science. According to data scientist Grace Malcom, analyzing Co-op data helps innovate existing workplace processes – as well as develop new ones – to increase efficiency on a companywide scale. This week, DEC celebrates “Love Data Week,” recognizing the many ways in which Malcom’s work helps us keep the lights on!
