About us
The Delaware Department of Labor connects people to jobs, resources, monetary benefits, workplace protections, and labor market information to promote financial independence, workplace justice, and a strong economy. The department's organizational structure was created by statute on June 22, 1970, when Delaware moved from a commission form of government to a cabinet form of government. Presently, the Department of Labor is headed by a secretary of labor who is appointed by the governor. The department is made up of four divisions and three offices: The Division of Employment and Training The Division of Unemployment Insurance The Division of Industrial Affairs The Division of Vocational Rehabilitation The Office of Occupational and Labor Market Information The Office of Administration The combined efforts of these divisions and offices support the employment-related needs of nearly 400,000 Delaware workers and more than 20,000 businesses throughout the state.

𝐃𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬: 𝐌𝐚𝐲 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒 𝐉𝐨𝐛 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐞𝐝 In May, the number of seasonally adjusted job openings in Delaware grew to 30,000, an increase of 2,000 openings from their April level and the first over-the-month increase since January 2024. The number of unemployed workers in Delaware totaled 19,900 in May, resulting in 10,100 more job openings than job seekers. Delaware's ratio of job openings to unemployed workers also rose over-the-month from 1.4 to 1.5 and was second highest among its surrounding states. Maryland's ratio of 2.1 was the region's highest. Pennsylvania tied the US' job openings to unemployed ratio at 1.4, while New Jersey had the region's lowest ratio of 1.1. Delaware Job Openings comes from the Bureau of Labor Statistics Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS). JOLTS provides information on the demand for labor in Delaware and job turnover.
