🎊 🎉 Exciting news from our Board of Directors! We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Ugwuji Maduekwe has been named to Medica’s Board of Directors. 🔳 Dr. Maduekwe is an associate professor of surgery and director of regional therapies in the division of surgical oncology at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee—she also serves as deputy director of, “Advancing a Healthier Wisconsin Endowment.” 🔳 Dr. Maduekwe was educated at the Harvard-MIT Program in Health Sciences and Technology, trained as a general surgeon at the prestigious Massachusetts General Hospital, and as a surgical oncologist at the University of Pittsburgh. She was born in Nigeria and came to the United States as a teenager before embarking on her medical training. 🔳 Dr. Maduekwe’s research focuses on health disparities in access to quality surgical oncology care and how that affects disparities in outcomes. 🔳 “Dr. Maduekwe is a terrific addition to the Medica Board of Directors,” said John Buck, Medica Board Chair. “She brings a deep understanding of the health care system and her research interests in health disparities and diversity in health care leadership strengthen Medica’s commitment to health care equity, which is a pressing matter for both the industry and all who engage with it.” Congratulations!!

This includes membership and enrollment, claims, customer service, configuration, and the project management functions. ◻ During his 10 years with General Electric and 20 years with UnitedHealth Group, Adam led complex business transformation and implementation in progressive leadership roles as a member of the executive leadership team. ◻ Adam earned his bachelor's degree in applied business from the University of Minnesota and holds a Master Black Belt certification. ◻ He serves as the board chair for Special Olympics 2026 USA Games coming to Minnesota. “Adam brings more than 30 years of experience in health care and financial services. "We are fortunate to have a Chief Legal Officer of Alicia’s caliber at Medica to help guide us through the health care industry’s legal, compliance, and policy environment, which continues to evolve rapidly,” said Lisa Erickson, Medica President and CEO. ◼ Alicia brings more than 25 years of experience in the legal and healthcare industry, including more than 15 years with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota in progressive roles, most recently as Vice President, Legal, General Counsel and Assistant Secretary. ◼ She began her career with Piper Sandler in investment banking and equity research. ◼ She also spent time with Split Rock Partners, SuperValu, and law firm Nilan Johnson Lewis PA. ◼ Alicia holds a Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Economics, from Macalester College, and she earned her Juris Doctor with honors from Mitchell Hamline School of Law. ◼ She serves on the board of Academy of Holy Angels.

Recently our corporate film-making team highlighted a beautiful friendship that has blossomed out of a difficult health situation. Joan has been a member of Prevea360 Health Plan for only a few months--right before her coverage began earlier this year, she learned her breast cancer had returned after more than two decades. While depressed and alone she was close to giving up the fight--then our Josh G. stepped in-- take the almost 6 minutes to watch--trust us it's worth it.
We are still 🎉 🎉 🙌 from our company-wide townhall event last week in Madison! Hundreds of employees gathered together to listen to our leaders, enjoyed home-made chili during our chili cook-off, launched our Craft Connection project which involves making various crafts and letters for seniors in member-run assisted living facilities to combat social isolation, and successfully completed a March of Dimes walk right on our Madison campus which raised money and awareness for healthy babies and maternal outcomes.
