I've been on holiday the last week or so, but just before I left I managed to find a quiet corner of the Lanark Hotel at DealCatalyst's UK Mortgage Conference and chat with Dr. Christian Thun (so, forgive any weird noises). Really interesting chatting to someone who absolutely loves all things data. Click on the links in the post below or go to your favourite podcasting platforms. Enjoy!
🎙️ Tune in to a recent episode of GlobalCapital's 'Another Fine Mezz' podcast, featuring European DataWarehouse CEO, Dr. Christian Thun, recorded live at DealCatalyst's UK Mortgage Finance conference last month. In this episode, Christian reflects on his PhD in #AI nearly 25 years ago—well before the days of #ChatGPT— and shares how he transitioned into #securitisation during his time at #Moody's, before joining EDW in 2016. He also dives into a recent EDW report, exploring whether better energy performance certificates (#EPCs) for homes truly lead to better #creditquality on #mortgages. Plus, Christian gives his take on the 'wind of change' in European securitisation, explaining the relevance of data in shaping the future of the market. ▶ Listen to the podcast here: https://lnkd.in/eZMhM_FK

Sharing a few of my key takeaways from some of the panels at yesterday's DealCatalyst Asset Based Finance U.S. Conference: - Rate Cuts: While we are often focused on a borrower's ability to service its debt, it is also important to take a "bottom-up" view as well. Falling interest rates will also strengthen the average consumer's ability to service their debt and in turn, strengthen the underlying collateral package of an asset-based financier. - Bank/Private Credit Partnerships: Banks are increasingly partnering with private credit firms - allowing banks to meet the evolving needs of their existing clientele while remaining capital efficient. - Warehouse Facilities v Forward Flow: In the current interest rate environment, businesses have been replacing or supplementing warehouse facilities with forward flow arrangements, where instead of borrowing against their receivables, such receivables are sold upfront. This provides a business with greater cash flow certainty (although they are giving up any future upside). - "Fix and flip": Following the trend in the UK market (where my London colleagues have been very active), there's been strong demand in "fix-and-flip" financings, providing credit to "house-flippers" who buy, remodel and sell old house. Do reach out to myself or Michael J. Neary if you want to discuss (or Matthew Pentecost or Lee Doyle for anything U.K./European related)!
