All of us at DCI Marketing hope that you have an enjoyable Labor Day Weekend. This year, it's the 130th anniversary of Labor Day, after President Grover Cleveland signed a congressional act in 1894 to make it a federal holiday. The first Monday in September is also Labour Day just to our north in Canada. So Happy Labour Day to our Canadian friends and colleagues.

Our creative, marketing and client relations teams spent the day at House of Harley-Davidson last week, learning how they keep customers coming back over and over again, in a place where it snows for four months of the year. Their winter storage facility allows them to work with customers to accomplish major service or upgrades during the winter months, while their Express Lane Service business keeps the shop busy when it's nice. We help Harley-Davidson Motor Company with its Express Lane Service and Premier Service Award Programs. House of Harley-Davidson won back-to-back Gold Premier Service Awards in 2022 and 2023.

I got to spend a few days in Milwaukee last week including a day filming an interview with Alex Vogel at House of Harley-Davidson. It's an top quality shop over there in Greenfield, Wisconsin. Within about a 75 mile radius of Harley-Davidson Motor Company headquarters, there are almost 20 H-D retailers. We only have 9 in the same radius here in Massachusetts, with 3.5x the population. The competition is fierce, but these folks have built one of the friendliest motorcycle dealerships I've ever walked into. (I needed to keep a lid on my spending so I only got a hat and a shirt instead of the Panamerica I really wanted.) Special thanks to Dèysha Smith-Jenkins and her crew from Twenty-Fifth Hour LLC for doing the hard work filming and editing.

Have You Heard of "Phygital"? Combining the words "physical" and "digital," Chris Weil, former Chairman and CEO of Momentum Worldwide, created the portmanteau in 2007. This blending of two words established the new phenomenon in the American psyche and pointed the way to a new business model. In 2020, COVID-19 accelerated the movement by offering online shopping with store-to-trunk pickups and other social distancing innovations. The Business Paradox, an online magazine focusing on business, put together a timeline of the progression, which starts with the public's early internet usage in the 1990s. It may be hard to believe, but it wasn't until the early 2000s that online shopping became commonplace. According to the magazine, phygital isn't "just a trend" – it's a revolution. "By embracing the convergence of physical and digital, brands can forge deeper connections, foster loyalty, and exceed customer expectations." The Business Paradox envisions the future of phygital as providing more self-direction for consumers: "As businesses begin to go 'phygital,' the divide between physical and digital interactions will continue to blur. The lines will fade, giving rise to a new era where customers dictate the terms of engagement." At DCI Marketing, we're helping our customers provide a world class shopping experience with digital solutions in physical spaces. Watch for our upcoming white paper, "Bridging the Online and In-Store Experiences" in the coming weeks.
