We are thrilled to announce that the 100% affordable residential complex, Somos, broke ground yesterday at 1750 Old Meadow Road in Tysons, Virginia! We take immense pride in designing this meaningful addition to Fairfax County and being part of a team dedicated to creating projects that strengthen our communities. This innovative development will introduce 470 affordable dwelling units across two buildings for individuals earning 60% or less of the area median income (AMI). Positioned a short distance from the McLean metro station, this project underscores SCG DEVELOPMENT's and the Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority's (FCRHA) commitment to providing essential workforce housing. The new 8-story building, replacing a former unused office structure, will be constructed atop an existing three-story parking garage. Approximately one of the four acres of land will be dedicated to developing outdoor areas, including a playground and pedestrian court, a 6-foot-wide recreational trail, and a 21,008 square-foot publicly accessible park along Old Meadow Road.

Melwood and Wesley Housing are pleased to announce the submission of a Site Plan Application for a mixed-use development including 105 new affordable housing units and 18,000 square feet of ground level space for Melwood’s community service use in Arlington, VA. Hanley Energy's light continues to shine brightly, and we're so thrilled to be a part of it! On Tuesday night , Loudoun County held their annual Signatures of Loudoun Awards and Hanley was honored with winning in the Interior Architecture category for the outstanding design of their HQ in Ashburn, Virginia. Hanley's Class A, loft-style HQ challenges industrial warehouse norms, boasting soaring ceiling heights up to 22 feet, biophilic design elements, abundant natural light, and a seamlessly connected Biodiversity garden off the lunchroom! What better time than National Education Day to celebrate Montgomery College's new East County Education Center (ECEC) located in Silver Spring, MD! We are so proud to have designed the newly constructed 55,000 square-foot education center that will offer a range of unique services and academic opportunities in this region. This new education center will be the largest of Montgomery College's three education centers, aiming to expand educational access to the residents of East County and to serve as an anchor institution in the community. The ECEC will feature classrooms, training labs, computer labs, student advising space, and community engagement and wellness centers. With the addition of this education center, Montgomery College expects to welcome more than 1,000 students in the first year. We are so excited to see the positive impact that this new education center will have on the East County community!
Saturday’s ideal June weather complemented the already picture-perfect backdrop to our annual DCS family gathering at the historic estate of Principal Lena Scott. Staff, family, and friends were treated to an afternoon of breath-taking scenery in Middleburg, VA, delicious food, fun activities for all ages, and new memories created with friends and family. It was difficult to name what we enjoyed most … the day was perfect.
DCS Design is thrilled to have designed the new distribution center for the Capital Area Food Bank in Lorton, VA. This upgraded facility, which is over 3.5 times the size of its predecessor, incorporates advanced refrigeration and storage capabilities, along with generous space for community engagement. The modernized CAFB will greatly increase its capacity to provide food assistance to the local community, effectively doubling its previous output and extending its reach to more individuals in need. With over 3,000 square feet designated for fostering community involvement and volunteerism, this center will serve as a dedicated hub for nurturing social connections and reinforcing the CAFB's role as a trusted community institution that fosters unity. April is for showers and spring flowers … and also ART! Throughout the entire month, our staff was treated to our second annual Art Exhibition. Featuring work from fluid art to carved wooden sculptures; from landscape watercolors to hand-sketched portraits; from mixed-media abstracts to hand-sculpted pottery, everyone brought something truly unique to share. We celebrated the artistry and techniques with a closing reception on Friday, and listened to each artist describe their work and what inspires them. We’ve always known we work with incredibly talented people, but these exhibitions never fail to surprise us just how talented they are!
