About us
Dattner Architects is a mission-driven and women-owned firm based in New York City proudly designing the region’s most essential projects. We create architecture that enriches the urban experience, transforms environments, and strengthens communities. Our practice covers a broad range of typologies, located in diverse urban areas, from central-city neighborhoods to the growing districts that are vital to the development of each city. Over time, our work has grown in scale and complexity, but our role in all of our projects has remained consistent. We are both architects and advocates—facilitating the complex exchanges between communities, professionals, and government officials required to identify the project’s vision.

We are thrilled to announce that earlier this month our project, the Stanley Manne Research Institute at Bronx High School of Science, was honored at the 2024 SARA NY Design Awards Gala. The project received the Design Award of Merit. The Stanley Manne Research Institute is a state-of-the-art new facility providing Bronx high school students the chance to conduct advanced experiments, preparing them for higher education or professional careers. Despite its modest size, the research center is a prominent addition to the school campus, complementing the main building and completing the student courtyard. It features a unique design with varying façade proportions and roof screening, giving it a distinct visual appeal from all sides. The building has three multidisciplinary labs, a walk-in cold room, tissue culture room, microscopy room, sterilization room, animal room, and a multi-purpose room for special events and specialized rooms. This building achieves 70% lower energy use than typical labs, and it is fully powered by renewable energy, aligning with NYC’s net-zero emissions goals by 2050. #SARANY #2024DesignAwards Jessica Soares Daniel Heuberger P Christian Bailey, AIA, SARA, LEED AP, Karin Hostettler Project Photography: Chris Cooper Event Photography: Carla Coria Photography

Phipps Houses recognized Monadnock for their deep commitment to creating quality affordable housing. We are grateful that we get to work with both Phipps and Monadnock to design and deliver affordable housing throughout NYC. The tribute video celebrates Monadnock’s significant contributions and their partnership with Phipps in building affordable homes, creating community, serving New Yorkers. Two of our large, phased projects, Atlantic Chestnut and Lambert Houses are featured in the video and Rachel Ehrlich, AIA, Dattner Architects' Associate Principal got the opportunity to share insights about Atlantic Chestnut and the collaboration process with Phipps and Monadnock https://lnkd.in/gC-cPt8y

Last week, as part of Dattner Architects’ celebration of Pride Month, our Datt Queer Club hosted a panel to discuss empowering socially driven inclusive design as well as visibility/intentional invisibility in the workplace. The panelists shared their insight on visibility, justice, and equity in their work and making equity present and visible in the AEC profession through the lens of the LGBTQIA community. Thank you to our panelists A.L. Hu, Mark Bearak, Keith Engel AIA (Dattner Architects), and our moderator Troy Lacombe (Dattner Architects). "Visibility, justice, and equity not only can manifest in the work we do as design leaders and denizens of social sustainability and equity, but in the quality of community and work that comes with bringing your most authentic self to work. Dattner Architects' most recent poll shows that 18% of the team identifies as openly LGBTQIA which is a testament to the supportive and inclusive environment we foster and design. It's our core mission to continually empower conversations and design tools around inclusivity to further grow and improve the built environment for all." - Datt Queer Club
