The Erasmus Project DataPro aims to enhance students' understanding of the multifaceted nature of data usage and protection. Our mission is to demystify the complexities surrounding data collection, storage, and utilisation, empowering students to make informed choices about their digital footprint in an era of surveillance and data monetisation. DataPro Hybrid Workshop The Erasmus Project DataPro aims to enhance the knowledge of school students regarding the multifaceted nature of data usage and protection.  This involves unravelling the complexities of data collection, storage, and utilization as well as empowering students to make informed decisions about their digital agency in a world of surveillance and making money out of (their) data. On 27 Sep - from 9.45 to 12.45 - Datapro will present und discuss the results of the first project phase. This will include an introduction into its curriculum on data protection and sovereignty for secondary school, results of a survey on students' knowledge and attitudes and an introduction into an AI driven e-learning tool. Our survey, conducted as part of the DataPro project, reveals interesting (and reassuring 🤗) details on the understanding of common cyber threats among families: 🔑 A significant number of respondents know what phishing is, indicating a high level of awareness about this prevalent threat 💪 🎣 Phishing is a tactic used by cyber criminals to trick individuals into revealing personal information, such as passwords and credit card numbers, often through deceptive emails or messages. Tips for spotting phishing attempts: 💡 Check the sender’s email address: Ensure it’s from a legitimate source. 💡 Look for spelling and grammar errors: Professional organisations usually avoid such mistakes. 💡 Avoid clicking on suspicious links: Hover over links to see the actual URL before clicking. 🛡️ How aware are families about data protection and cybersecurity? 🔒 What measures do they take to safeguard their personal information online? As part of the DataPro project, we conducted a survey. The goals of the survey were to assess the current understanding of data protection among families and to identify common practices and gaps in cybersecurity awareness. We received responses from various countries, providing us with a comprehensive overview of how families deal with data protection and cybersecurity. 🔎 In May, the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) adopted an opinion on the use of facial recognition technology at airports. The EDPB recommends that individuals have control over their biometric data when using the aforementioned technology. It recommends avoiding solutions that may compromise data integrity and confidentiality. In addition, steps have been taken to regulate artificial intelligence and access to financial data.
