An excellent start to Carbon Unbound yesterday, highlighted by an engaging discussion on the policy needs, project finance challenges, and near-term priorities for scaling the direct air capture sector. The session was moderated by our Co-founder and Executive Director Jason Hochman with Nicholas Moore Eisenberger, Giana Amador, Josh Santos and Rob van Straten as insightful panelists. The Direct Air Capture Coalition counts members and partners on five continents, across over 20 countries so we did not pass up on the opportunity to get a group photo with innovators and entrepreneurs from 15 DAC companies immediately preceding the panel. Our firm conviction that direct air capture can, and will, play a critical role in the journey to net zero is in no part due to the brilliance, diligence, dedication, and talent of those pictures on stage, and the many, many, many others not pictured around the world working to solve the world's most pressing problem. Noya, 8 Rivers, DACMA GmbH, TerraFixing, Zero Carbon Systems Global Thermostat, Skytree, Climeworks, Heimdal, Gaia Refinery, RepAir Carbon Capture, Carbon Reform, ReCarbn, CarbonCapture Inc., Cella, AirMyne

On a week where Climeworks unveiled the world's largest commercial direct air capture facility to date, Project Mammoth, and XPRIZE announced its 20 finalists, including Direct Air Capture Coalition members Aircapture Airhive Heirloom and Octavia Carbon, this news shows that we are seeing the research, development, innovation, and deployment necessary to scale this critical climate solution happen in the real world. Our role at the Direct Air Capture Coalition is to help support the visionaries, innovators, and entrepreneurs working hard every day to make gigaton scale direct air capture a reality. Their success will be the world's success in addressing humanity's greatest challenge, and weeks like this one give us hope that we will be able to work together to create a brighter future and safer climate. Congratulations to the Holocene team on the unveiling of their DAC pilot this week. The launch of their pilot represents another impressive milestone in the scaling of this critical climate technology. A hearty congratulations to Anca Timofte Keeton Ross and the whole team on reaching this achievement in such a short period of time.
Our team has shared a few “big day” posts… but this week, May 8th, marked the BIGGEST (yet). We unveiled, & operated, our first DAC pilot for the world. We were grateful to bring together nearly 100 attendees from within and outside of Knoxville to witness this major milestone – both for our company, and we hope, for the planet. For the majority of attendees, they had never seen a direct air capture facility before. Let alone, seen one operate... in real time, with real data, in real life. This day was the culmination of countless hours, tireless work, and limitless ingenuity from the entire Holocene team to turn an idea into a reality. The work doesn’t stop here – we’ve scaled up 100,000x… and we’ve got another 100,000x to go to reach megatonne scale facilities. We’re sharing a few pictures, and live video from the technology demonstration, so our broader community can celebrate this accomplishment with us, as well. From 1300 teams to the final 20! We're beyond proud to see our Direct Air Capture Coalition members Airhive (UK), Aircapture (US), Heirloom (US), and Octavia Carbon (Kenya) among the finalists competing for XPRIZE crown and a $50M check. We noted the variation and diversity that exists in these four companies whether that is in their technology, size of team, growth stage/funding or their access to policy support, exemplifying the bubbling energy and innovation this space is full of. 🌍 Each of these teams brings something unique to the table: ➡ Airhive: Fluidised beds revolutionizing carbon capture ➡Aircapture/44.01: World's largest peridotite mineralization project in Oman ➡Heirloom: Robotically-controlled calcium looping tech ➡Octavia Carbon: Paving the way for Kenya's DAC legacy DAC is just one piece of the puzzle—we salute the other finalists in the categories of Oceans, Rocks, and Land for their game-changing solutions. Let's bring on an 'all-hands-on-deck' approach to meet our carbon removal goals. Check out all the finalists: https://lnkd.in/gDjTiPaR #CarbonRemoval #XPRIZE #DirectAirCapture #ClimateAction

Our Co-founder and Executive Director Jason Hochman was in Iceland for the unveiling of Climeworks Project Mammoth, the world's largest commercial direct air capture and storage facility. With a nameplate capacity of removing 36,000 tons CO2/year, Mammoth represents a 9x increase over Climeworks first commercial plant, Project Orca which can remove 4,000 tons CO2/year. The unveiling of Mammoth represents a monumental milestone for the entire DAC sector as this critical climate technology moves from the lab to real world deployments. The Direct Air Capture Coalition heartily applauds the entire Climeworks team on this achievement and is eager to continue supporting the pioneers and innovators around the world working to make gigaton scale direct air capture a reality.
