Last month, we turned the Dallas skyline red to celebrate D Magazine’s 50th anniversary. For half a century, we have traced the growth and evolution of Dallas inside the pages of the magazine, capturing triumphs and tribulations, with the hope that by shining a light on our city’s true colors, we make the future brighter. Our September issue celebrated our 50th birthday, yes, but, more than that, it explored the moments that have shaped Dallas over that time and the people at the center of these stories. Those called to be caregivers make our lives and the lives of our loved ones better by doing their jobs, day in and day out. As an industry professional, we invite you to help honor and tell the stories of the outstanding nurses you see healing North Texas with skill and spirit.    Please consider nominating a nurse that you have personally worked with who has shown exceptional care to his or her patients for this year’s Excellence in Nursing Awards. Honorees will be featured in the March 2025 issue of D Magazine.   Nominations close next Monday, October 7.

As we look back on 50 years of D, we honor its ambitious young co-founders, Wick Allison and Jim Atkinson, and their vision to help shape the future of Dallas. The goal: tell stories about the city and its people through quality, local journalism and style. Reflect the city back to itself. Help Dallas realize its potential. The October Best Doctors issue of D Magazine is here! Meet Dr. Keith Meister, the Rangers’ doctor behind the state-of-the art surgical technique used to fix pitchers’ elbows—though he would rather not perform the operation at all. After a career of working with athletes, Dr. Meister is on a mission to fix baseball. Next, flip the page to read about the Brian De Palma cult classic "Phantom of the Paradise" and its 50th anniversary return to the Majestic Theatre where it was filmed. The rock-and-roll black comedy horror riff on "The Phantom of the Opera" will be showing next month. Finally, read the story of Minh Nguyen, an optometrist and Pokémon master who has tracked down nearly 200 former Plano Senior High classmates. On August 15, more than 900 guests joined to celebrate D Magazine‘s 50th anniversary at the iconic Longhorn Ballroom and honor the very best that Dallas has to offer at Best of Big D. Throughout the evening, our award-winning restaurants and bars served delicious food and cocktails: Cattleack Barbeque, Cookie Society, Jonathon’s Forestwood, Koryo, Lubellas Patisserie, Niwa Japanese BBQ, Panaderia La Mejor, Resident Taqueria, Ruins, Rye, Scardello Cheese, Surf Camp, Taco y Vino, Too Thai Street Eats, Urban Tadka, and Wu Wei Din.  Guests were treated to an array of photo ops, including the MOTUS Glambot, a classic booth sponsored by St. John's Episcopal School, and an interactive 50th anniversary themed photo display that was gradually filled with guest photos throughout the evening.
