Yesterday, we celebrated our first-ever Disability Pride Night presented by Nestlé. While we seek to uplift the voices and experiences of people with disabilities 365 days a year, we know that flagship events like Disability Pride allow us to intentionally spotlight the collective stories of hope, struggle, and opportunity that make our city and team better. Our goal is to provide an inclusive and enjoyable experience for everyone. While we strive to create the most inclusive environment possible, we recognize that we are still on a journey towards greater accessibility and inclusivity. We understand that there is always more to learn and improve, and we are committed to listening, learning, and making continuous enhancements to better serve our community. On Wednesday, July 24, Cuyahoga DD partnered with the Cleveland Guardians for Disability Awareness Night in many ways: • Cuyahoga DD Community Development staff and Good Life Ambassadors spoke to game-day staff about how to support fans with disabilities and/or sensory needs. • Good Life Ambassador Shaye Taylor and her twin Sharita sang the National Anthem. • A child enrolled in Family Supports started the game by saying the two most important words in baseball, “Play Ball!” • Cuyahoga DD’s universal changing table was on site. • Cuyahoga DD made it possible for 200 people and families served to attend the game, and Cuyahoga DD fans were delighted by visits from the Sugardale Hot Dogs and Slider (who was wearing noise-canceling headphones) • A Cuyahoga DD family made it to the Jumbotron to do O-H-I-O during “Hang on, Sloopy!” Many thanks to the Cleveland Guardians for their partnership and for making the game such a great experience for the people and families Cuyahoga DD serves! #DisabilityPrideMonth #CleGuardians #CuyahogaDD

Mattel, Inc. has unveiled two new Barbies in collaboration with the American Foundation for the Blind and the National Down Syndrome Society. A blind Barbie and a Black Barbie with Down syndrome, all to grow their diverse and inclusive Fashionista dolls. #Barbie #AFB #NDSS

It is time for an Employee Spotlight! Meet LaTria Turner, Eligibility Support Administrator. In her 26 years at Cuyahoga DD, LaTria continues to enjoy supporting people with disabilities. From working to speaking up, LaTria is proud to guide people in their journeys. "It’s inspiring to see people reach goals that they never thought could be obtained." LaTria likes to people-watch, "you can learn a lot from watching others. I enjoy meeting new people and learning about other cultures and what makes them who they are."
