We compile a whole mess of statistics in the public transit space. They all tell different stories, some meaningful and some arcane. One stat that's been fascinating me lately is unlinked passenger trips per capita. This measures the extent to which an area's population is using its transit services. Using the latest Census and NTD data, I ran a lot of numbers. The US urban areas with the highest numbers of transit trips per capita are: (1) NYC, (2) San Francisco-Oakland, (3) Ames IA, (4) Hanford CA, and (5) Champaign IL. Congratulations, Amy!
After almost 30 years of service to the City of Clovis, General Services Director Shonna Halterman announced she will retire in December. The General Services Director leads staff members in multiple divisions, including Personnel, Risk Management, Purchasing, Facilities Maintenance, Public Transit, Recreation, and Senior Services. Deputy General Services Director Amy Hance has been selected as the incoming General Services Director. Amy Hance has worked for the City of Clovis for 18 years and is currently responsible for the day-to-day operations of Public Transit, Senior Services, and Recreation. “Shonna leaves an indelible, positive impact on the community in countless ways, but in particular, her incredible work turning Landmark Square from a vision into a reality which will serve Clovis for generations to come,” said John Holt, City Manager, City of Clovis. “We are blessed in Clovis to have a deep bench of leaders, like Amy Hance, who serve this community each day. Amy will seamlessly transition to her new role as Director of General Services without missing a beat, and I am excited to see her continue to serve the City in her new role.”

First-mile, last-mile trips can be a challenge for some transit agencies, especially in rural and less dense suburban areas where there may not be room for another fully fledged transit option. Could autonomous vehicles (AVs) fill in those gaps in service? Studies and transportation literature point to yes, and CTAA member Duluth Transit Authority is already in the testing phase for AV add-on service: https://lnkd.in/ggEVKt9J
