  • “Trauma-informed care has emerged as a critical framework for addressing the impact of adversity and trauma on individuals, organizations, and communities. From schools to healthcare settings and from criminal justice systems to social services, there is a growing recognition of the need for trauma-informed practices.” Hear more about this important topic from Crossnore’s Center for Trauma Resilient Communities Executive Director, Lina Pasquale, today on the blog.

  • Take a look at this article by our Chief Program Officer, Dr. Sarah Norris, featured in the July/August issue of Fostering Families Today. "Understanding the Unspoken" focuses on signs to watch for in children and youth in foster care who have experienced trauma, including behavior changes, physical symptoms, and emotional distress. When the kids we work with in the child welfare system aren’t able to express with words what they are feeling or experiencing, it’s important for caregivers to pay attention to what they aren’t saying. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach, but every child needs unconditional love and care, and a safe space where they can open up. To read the full article, go to https://lnkd.in/gPsCbMK and subscribe today. This month’s magazine is full of great tips and encouragement for caregivers. • In June, the Brewer family was able to take their three children, who are in foster care, to Great Wolf Lodge in Charlotte. The FFA provided 120 families the opportunity to stay at the lodge for a one night stay through a raffle. The kids enjoyed the wave pool, the tornado ride, and, most of all, making new friends. One of their children learned how to flip underwater for the first time! While everyone was exhausted after the trip, it was so worth if for the fun and quality time they got to spend together. The Brewers are so thankful for the gifted trip! #fostercarefriday #fostercare #familyfun #greatwolflodge

  • At Crossnore, when we engage with how others deal with challenges, we employ an incredible level of support, flexibility, and compassion unique to the individual. Today on the blog, Adventure Specialist, Patrick, talks about how those in the helping profession have tools and skills to guide others through challenging experiences. Instead of stopping there, Patrick talks about applying some of those same methods to ourselves. The support, flexibility, and compassion we show others should also be shown to ourselves. Justin-Ray has been with Crossnore for one year and says his favorite part of his job is being with people as they accomplish something that seemed overwhelming when they first approached it. When asked for his wisdom for the world, Justin-Ray said "Be you. For most of us, most of the time: The people around me are not judging me the way I am judging me." We are so happy you are part of the Crossnore family, Justin-Ray. Thank you for all you do for the children and families we serve.
