It was an honor to have the chance to remember and honor today at a DC memorial service a role model and a mentor of mine, Senator Joe Lieberman. It was a thrill to see old friends, new friends who I didn't know also worked with the Senator, and old bosses of mine who taught me so much. I fear that we were saying goodbye not only to the irreplaceable Senator Lieberman, but also to another era - one in which strong arguments were made passionately and, eventually, consensus was found and progress made. It was fitting that the service ended with a song that his son said ended every Lieberman Passover seder: "God Bless America." (h/t Nathan Diament for the photo!)

This venue is for job-related stuff, not politics. But over the past few days, I was able to give my take on the incredible weekend to a few of my reporter friends. What I told them also applies to companies and organizations. The first was that Democrats were ignoring the data that was very clear to us months ago that voters didn't want Biden to run again. As any CEO knows, you need to believe the data -- not your story. Second, Vice President Harris will -- quickly -- need to show voters what she wants to do as President, and how she is different from Trump and from the status quo. Differentiation is important not just in politics; you need to lay out a convincing vision for the future and how you are the one to take us there. As I’ve said before, tuition free medical school does NOT change what physicians do as a career and is NOT an effective way to enhance primary care. Kudos to Bloomberg for putting income restrictions on his historic gift to The Johns Hopkins University covering tuition for students by restricting the tuition assistance to families who earn less than $300K/year. But when it comes to incentivizing med school students to go into under-staffed specialties like primary care, we have learned that free tuition is not the solution. What's more, at this point, it’s not clear that free med school tuition increases more minorities or other under-represented groups going into medicine. The US needs more doctors, especially from certain backgrounds and in certain specialties. Free tuition is great, but it needs to be more specifically targeted with strings attached. #healthcareonlinkedin #medicalschool #medicalschooltuition #primarycare #physicianshortage #tuitionfree
Beginning in the fall of 2024, Johns Hopkins University will provide tuition-free Medical School for most medical students and expand aid for future nurses and public health pioneers. Learn more: https://bit.ly/45SW76F

“Have you had a mammogram yet?” That simple question, asked at the right time, is critical to early detection and prevention of breast cancer for many women. With the recent release of updated #mammogram guidelines by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, lowering the age for screenings to 40, it is more urgent than ever to ensure people get the message. I wrote an op-ed in STAT about how we can use simple messaging to communicate these guidelines to patients and make sure they know what preventive screenings they need. I am so proud of the work we are doing at Phreesia to prevent cancer by getting the message out to patients when they are thinking about their health and can take action. This is our #cancermoonshot. #cancerprevention https://lnkd.in/eeCtYzkW
