There's a new design tool I can't stop thinking about... And it started as soon as I saw this prototype for the first time. Immediately I knew: 1) this is a very big deal 2) I need to interview someone from Play Play is a new way to design prototype mobile apps using native iOS materials It's a perfect glimpse of where design tools are headed next IMO So this episode is a deep dive into: → their product strategy → the tooling landscape → interaction design a lot more... Play makes complex interactions easy, especially compared to other tools like Origami. Let's unpack it with an example using the phone's gyro... Origami is an incredibly powerful tool, but it can take a long time to prototype things and has a very steep learning curve. If we look at the Panorama example below in Origami, you can see that you need to: › Use Math to unpack the values it's receiving from the iPhone's gyro › Clean up the acceleration raw values › Use a patch to create boundaries so the photo doesn't pan indefinitely › Connect the output values with Transition Nodes In total, you need 10 nodes to make this work. In Play you add one trigger and select: › The Axis and max / min values for the movement › The object that is going to move with the device › The range of motion of the object affected by the gyro On top of that, Play allows you to: › Share your prototypes with an AppClip › Share prototypes that adapt to any iPhone model › Ideate with a Freeform Canvas › Collaborate with your coworkers Want to know more about how Play compares with Origami? https://lnkd.in/eU4pS64e Try out this prototype on your iPhone ↓ https://lnkd.in/eRKtsyp2 #prototype #design #origami #productdesign
