  • What Does The Future Of Leadership Acquisition Look Like? Shawn Cole Cowen Partners Executive Search in Forbes Rhett Power Evaluating a candidate's resume is only the beginning. The true challenge lies in uncovering the potential beyond bullet points and job titles. Shawn Cole, a seasoned expert in executive search, emphasizes the importance of understanding a candidate's character and leadership potential, which are often shaped by the environments in which they have worked. "We believe strongly in the idea that 'the environment makes the man or woman,'" says Cole. "By closely examining where a candidate has worked and how they have navigated those environments, we can gain critical insights into their potential as a leader." Top-tier firms look for patterns of success in candidates who have thrived in demanding environments, sometimes referred to as "honey holes" — organizations known for producing exceptional leaders. These candidates bring a proven track record of overcoming challenges and achieving results in high-pressure situations. This approach goes beyond qualifications, focusing instead on identifying the intrinsic qualities that differentiate a good leader from a great one. By leveraging tools like personality assessments, references, and behavioral interviews, search firms can gain a comprehensive understanding of a candidate's leadership potential, ensuring that they are well-suited to drive success in their new role. https://lnkd.in/g_HAYyc3

  • Fortune The pharmaceutical industry, in general, can be complex with many challenges. “Large pharmaceutical companies often prioritize promoting internal candidates for executive roles to ensure continuity and leverage institutional knowledge,” Shawn Cole, president and founding partner of Cowen Partners, a C-suite-focused executive search firm, told me. “Their size allows them to build a deep bench of qualified talent.” Cole added, though, that pharma firms may also bolster their team with external hires from competitors to gain fresh perspectives.

Eli Lilly and Company has promoted longtime executive Lucas Montarce to CFO. The move is similar to the career path of his predecessor, Anat Ashkenazi, who also spent two decades at Lilly before becoming finance chief. Montarce succeeds Ashkenazi who left the company to become SVP and CFO of Google and Alphabet, beginning her tenure on July 31. “I am honored to step into this role during such a significant time in our company’s history,” Montarce said in a statement. Grammarly appointed Navam Welihinda as its new CFO, as well as appointing Instacart alum Mark Schaaf as its CTO, according to a Tuesday announcement. While both Welihinda and Schaaf have IPO experience, Grammarly doesn't have any "immediate plans" for an IPO but needs leaders who can “scale an already sizeable, high-growth company,” a spokesperson told CFO Dive. However, the hiring of both executives, as well as other factors, suggest the company is moving in that direction, Shawn Cole, president of the executive search firm Cowen Partners Executive Search, said in an email response to questions. “They are preparing for an IPO, but not anytime soon, in my opinion,” Cole said. #IPOs #leadership #aisoftware #software https://lnkd.in/euHDVCRZ
