While feeling different from others growing up, Jillian didn't learn she had autism until high school. The diagnosis opened up a world of acceptance she hadn't felt before. Shortly after her mother got her connected to Corvilla and Jillian found her creative outlet, her mother passed away. "Corvilla helps me live my life independently, as I wish to do. They've meant a lot to me. They've become like my family and embraced me, and helped me to get my life back." About #autism, Jillian says, "An autism diagnosis is not a death sentence. It's a lifestyle. Please treat your child like a regular human being. We're just people. We have the same thoughts and feelings. If you have autism, a life is possible. You just press on and it's going to be okay."

Meet Corvilla artist Devante, who has been at our Granger location for two years! He and his parents were looking for something for Devante to do outside of his house. "I like meeting new people, new personalities. Corvilla's a safe place. Everybody cares about each other here." Devante recently helped at our March Coffee Canvas Benefit Event and he's a blast to be around. We're grateful to have Devante as part of our growing family!

After losing both of her parents, moving to Indiana and in with her aunt, Vivian eventually made her way to Corvilla. She always enjoyed art but never considered herself an artist. Many don't think about individuals with #disabilities experiencing #grief and #loss. But Vivian says, "Doing artwork can help you process grief. I personally didn't think that was true until I started doing it." Now she is a premiere artist at our Bremen Day Service who pours everything into each piece she does in honor of her parents. Vivian, you rock. Thank you for beautifully and courageously sharing your story.

Corvilla's logo is a bloom. It represents the growth and flourishing that happens in the lives of individuals with #disabilities who choose to take part in our services. Nick's story is one of flourishing. Rarely speaking and showing little interest when he started, through the loving kindness and patience of our staff, Nick now does everything our day service has to offer and even has reciprocal conversations with staff and peers. His #art and #furniture were the most purchased products from our Granger location the last quarter of 2023. 💚
