At the Rebuilt Ukraine Event, within the framework of Reconstruction forum (organized by CBU - КБУ ), I shared CORE (Community Organized Relief Effort) experience of working with international businesses corporations and how it is contributing not only to communities' support, it is also a front door for businesses to get opportunities to position themselves with the perspective to embark into a new market.     CORE – SAE-A partnership started in 2012 after the devastating earthquake in Haiti. Then, through public-private partnerships with the U.S. Department of State, Global SAE-A Group, USAID, CORE and IDB, SAE developed and created an industrial complex (with an area of about 2,5 million m2 and 15,000 jobs created) that can produce USD 200 million worth of products annually in Haiti.     In 2022, SAE has immediately reacted to the full-scale war against Ukraine and supported first with covering of urgent basic needs and after allocated funds for rebuilding, recovery and sustainable development of the communities.    As of now we have implemented more than 10 joint construction projects. These include restoring housing, water and gas supply in frontline villages, repairing school and hospital shelter and many more.    We very much appreciate the support of our partner, and our collaboration is beneficial for both parties through providing humanitarian support, SAE exploring the country, finding information about possible new markets and using the opportunities for recovery.

  • CORE’s third strategic pillar is Addressing Climate Change. We are on the front lines, working with marginalized and low-income communities to develop and strengthen climate resilience programs. We partner with local governments, NGOs, community-based organizations, and financial service providers. Together, we implement climate action plans, strategize, and amplify climate resilience activities by combining funds, resources, and the inherent strengths of the communities we serve.   CORE’s goal is to help communities mitigate, adapt, and prepare for the ongoing and future impacts of climate change. Our ongoing mission is to develop practical solutions, propagate urgency, and spread awareness fueled not by fear, but by the knowledge that produces hope and fortitude. • CORE supports marginalized and vulnerable communities impacted by natural and man-made humanitarian disasters worldwide. With community building as our north star, our strategic pillars are: - Emergency Response & Preparedness  - Health Access  - Climate Resilience Within CORE’s first pillar, Emergency Response and Preparedness, we are committed to delivering immediate relief and recovery to marginalized communities facing disasters worldwide. Following humanitarian emergencies, we listen, we learn and then we act – because local communities know best what their needs are and how to fill them. We do not take a one-size-fits-all approach to emergency response; rather, we develop solutions that are tailored to the communities we serve.  CORE’s efforts are fueled by local hands, and we partner with local leaders, organizations, governments, and other stakeholders to bring equitable relief to those who need it most. We prioritize partnerships with community-based organizations that truly represent and advocate for the people we aim to serve.  Community and resilience building is at the heart of every response. We remain committed to empowering communities in and beyond crisis, leaving them stronger and better prepared for the next disaster. • CORE’s second strategic pillar is Health Access. Equitable healthcare is crucial as it significantly improves life expectancy and quality, reduces the spread of preventable disease, and promotes long-term societal well-being. In March 2020, CORE rapidly mobilized in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and supported the equitable distribution of lifesaving resources. Working alongside local governments, medical providers, and community organizations, our response quickly expanded across the U.S., from the Navajo Nation to New Orleans, and to some of the hardest-hit regions around the world, including Brazil, India, and Uganda. We operated the largest vaccination and testing site in the U.S. at Dodger Stadium, in addition to running mobile units, walk-up sites, and in-home services to reach some of the most vulnerable communities.  Today, CORE is committed to building more inclusive health systems and programs that are better equipped to handle future public health challenges and resilient in the face of global health emergencies, ensuring that no community is left behind. • From June to December 2023, CORE piloted an integrated Village Saving and Loan Associations (VSLA) and GBV prevention approach in five communes in Sud Department: Les Cayes, Port-Sault, Camp-Perrin, Saint-Louis and Cavaillon. CORE established women’s VSLA-Protection groups, delivered VSLA and business training, strengthened women's social networks, increased women’s access to savings and capital for their economic activities, and built community awareness on gender equality, GBV and available services for GBV survivors. This learning brief captures lessons drawn from the pilot and includes recommendations for future interventions, including integrated VSLA-GBV prevention at scale. https://lnkd.in/gS_DW5MT #haiti #vsla #coreresponse

  • Hear from CORE's Ukraine Country Director, Liana Khorovytska speaks on the International Day for the Prevention of Environmental Exploitation in Time of War and Armed Conflict. #ukraine

Ukraine Country Director CORE (Community Organized Relief Effort)

Today is the International Day for the Prevention of Environmental Exploitation in Time of War and Armed Conflict. The task that is not easy to achieve under the current situation. But no matter how hard it could be this is the priority to take into account in everything we do, as it define the live for future generations. Environmental aspect is a cross-cutting issue in all projects CORE (Community Organized Relief Effort) implements.     As part of integration programs, we supported  planting of a 35,000 tree in one of the communities in Western Ukraine, which hosted several hundred of IDPs. This activity united IDPs family and host community residence and it helped not only to improve the environmental condition of the community, but also helped bring IDPs and locals closer together for a common goal.     We purchase air quality monitoring equipment for a mobile laboratory in Zaporizhzhya. This equipment plays a crucial role in monitoring air quality in the region around the currently temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, the largest in Europe and the third largest in the world by total capacity.     In addition, we try to take environmental risks into account in all our infrastructure projects, whether we are building or repairing facilities or providing direct aid in the form of food and other goods.      There will be a lot of work after the war ends. And we have to  to care and think about the protection of the environment even under such difficult conditions.
