Following this Silicon Valley Defense Group report, The Wall Street Journal asked Dayna Grayson how investors are evaluating defense tech startups. Her response: “It’s true the DoD is in dire need of innovation. It’s also true that it takes a long time to turn that need into meaningful new defense contracts and projects and thus revenue for new startups. It is incumbent that VCs in this space have a deep understanding of that process to fully support founders and to drive returns in this space.” https://lnkd.in/ezS8hHTn

AI is poised to completely transform foundational industries, especially across supply chain and procurement where the myriad of unstructured and disparate data makes everything far more complicated than in most spaces. We’re excited to announce our latest investment in the space, Didero, an end-to-end solution perfectly designed to help companies streamline complexity and reduce manual processes, saving both time and money. Didero is creating the first autonomous supply chain, leveraging AI to centralize supplier information, streamline communication, and automate repetitive workflows. Their platform is designed to integrate seamlessly with existing systems, transforming unstructured data into actionable insights and freeing up supply chain teams to focus on strategic initiatives. The founding team of Tom Petit, Tim Spencer, and Lorenz Pallhuber brings a wealth of experience in supply chain and company building and is hands-down the best team to build this business, ushering in not only a technological advancement, but an AI-powered paradigm shift that will redefine how businesses operate. Today is a big day at Chef Robotics: they are coming out of stealth to scale their AI-enabled robotic systems. Chef is uniquely positioned to lead the food robotics space having prepared more than 20M servings. The food preparation industry has the #1 labor shortage in the country, and Chef is tackling this problem directly with robotics that work alongside humans on existing production lines. Congrats to Rajat Bhageria and the team at Chef on their continued rapid progress! https://lnkd.in/esYeyqju

Kinetic Raises $21m to Transform Automotive Repair and Maintenance

Congrats to Nikhil Naikal and the team at Kinetic on announcing their $21m Series B financing! Construct led the Series A and we're excited to continue on the journey. Kinetic is scaling their software and robotics automation solution in the automotive aftermarket, addressing an underserved but critical aspect of auto repair and maintenance: the digital components of vehicles such as sensors and software.
I am delighted to share that Kinetic has closed a Series-B financing of $21M led by Shawn Carolan at Menlo Ventures with participation from our main insiders, including Bilal Zuberi, Rachel Holt and Semil Shah. We also had the strategic venture arms of Liberty Mutual Insurance and Allstate join the round. Cars are transitioning from being mechanically complex to being digitally complex. Modern cars have around 100 million lines of code, thousands of semiconductor chips, and dozens of sensors, making repair extremely challenging. And yet, the automotive aftermarket has lacked technological innovation and investment for decades. Kinetic is changing that. Lora Kolodny at CNBC wrote a fantastic article about Kinetic and our fundraise that you can read here: https://lnkd.in/gErhFbra We are expanding our footprint aggressively. Our technology has been tested in multiple cities, and we are at the tipping point of a massive scale-up. Read about our plans on our blog post here: https://lnkd.in/gdmd_Cv9 Our journey would not be possible without an incredible team. Having humble and ambitious teammates with high grit and intellectual curiosity is an honor. If you believe you embody these traits, Kinetic is the right place for you! Thanks to Connie Loizos for writing about Construct’s focus on Foundational Industries and some of our newest investments: TimberEye, Earth, and Monaire. These companies are transforming massive markets such as timber, funeral services, and HVAC. “Construct Capital has been focused on comparatively boring software that can transform industrial sectors” — we don't think they are boring! Foundational Industries such as logistics, manufacturing, and critical infrastructure represent over $10T of US GDP. We are in the midst of a seismic shift of bringing software and technology to transform these markets. Here at Construct, we see that technology companies bringing novel solutions to Foundational Industries drive high quality revenue, strong gross margins, and high multiples due to incredible market sizes and receptive customers. We continue to lead Seed and Series A financings, where founders are executing on this! https://lnkd.in/en6eQA65
