Coffee was flying off the shelves! Until it wasn't... One of my first marketing clients was a coffee retailer who had built their entire following on Facebook. Caffeine was their business, and business was good! ☕ Until one day when their Facebook page was unceremoniously suspended, right before they could promote a massive shipment of seasonal coffee hitting the shelves. Suddenly, they had no way to reach their customers and a very short time to turn the inventory. Fortunately, weeks before, we’d setup Constant Contact to grow their email list. We decided to put it to the test and sent an email to our subscribers with a heartfelt message: “Facebook shut us down, and we need your help.” Our loyal customers didn’t disappoint. They spread the word, showed up, rallied around the brand, and helped us clear the seasonal stock faster than expected. By the time Facebook reinstated their page, the shelves were empty, and we didn’t just have sales, we had direct access to an armada of caffeinated brand advocates. This experience reminded me that while social media is powerful, email marketing is your direct line to your customers - one you own. It’s that safety net when everything else falls through.
