An Inclusive Wildlife Conservation Movement

About us

In the fight to save endangered animals and the planet, we need every smart voice and solution at the table. Unfortunately, long-standing systems have put up enormous barriers to careers in wildlife conservation. To save threatened wildlife and their habitats we must fuel a self-sustaining movement that brings a more representative and inclusive community of conservationists to the fight, today and in the future. By supporting and amplifying the work of underrepresented voices in the conservation field—specifically women, people of color, Indigenous people, and those from disadvantaged communities—we will help save wildlife today, and we will inspire, educate, and uplift a more representative group of future conservationists to follow in their footsteps.

The Conservation Nation Academy has some exciting new lessons in the works! Our Educational Multimedia Producer, Gabriela Paola Franco Peña, has been busy creating video lessons that will introduce students to the joys of noticing nature through birding. 🦜 In collaboration with some amazing birding advocates, we will be releasing two new lessons soon! “Wingin’ It,” co-created with Sam DeJarnett (pictured), teaches students that you do not have to be an expert to go outside and start noticing birds. 🦆 “Birding Beyond the Binary,” a lesson co-created with Tykee James, explores how birds can challenge our assumptions about gender roles and help us appreciate the diversity of nature in a new way.

We ❤️ our Conservation Nation fellow exchange program! Our very first amazing fellow, Taylor Rabe (Bland), got to go from helping save wolves in Yellowstone to helping our second fellow, Yamat Lengai of African People & Wildlife, save elephants and lions in Tanzania after Yamat came to help and learn from Taylor in Yellowstone a few months ago. Information exchange, collaborative learning across continents, women in conservation power - it’s where it’s at!

News worth sharing from our partners at African People & Wildlife! ⬇️ "Our efforts to drive human-elephant coexistence outside the Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA) shifted into high gear this week! Thanks to the generous support of Conservation Nation, we handed over a new vehicle to assist local officers in mitigating human-wildlife conflicts, such as elephant crop raiding. With this new resource, we're enhancing response times and creating safer, shared spaces for people and wildlife." 📷: Emmily Tunuka (1) and Marcus Westberg (2-3)

With the support of Conservation Nation, Lotanna Micah Nneji is working towards a future where Nigeria’s unique, threatened, and endemic amphibian species can thrive without the threat of extinction. His project focuses on conserving endemic and threatened species, such as Perret’s toad, a rare amphibian found only in specific regions of Nigeria. Beyond fieldwork, the team works through school-based programs and community outreach. Through conservation science education sessions with students and engagement with school teachers, they are cultivating a new generation of conservation advocates. https://loom.ly/ZqssjPo

Conservation Nation fellow Deepshikha Sharma has worked for years to strengthen the relationship between local communities in Northern India and snow leopards. We're honored to support her work training local women in the village of Kibber to set up camera traps to capture images of snow leopards. After learning about the success of the program in Kibber, a group of women in the neighboring village of Chicham have expressed an interest in potentially becoming the next cadre of camera trappers in the region. We're grateful to all these women working to protect snow leopards!
