Building a Healthier Connecticut
About us
Founded in 1919, the Connecticut Hospital Association (CHA) represents hospitals and health-related organizations. With more than 140 members, CHA is one of the most respected hospital associations in the nation. CHA’s mission is to advance the health of individuals and communities by leading, representing, and serving hospitals and their related healthcare organizations that are accountable to the community and committed to health improvement. CHA ACHIEVES THIS MISSION THROUGH: - Public policy and advocacy on behalf of the interests of hospitals and their related healthcare organizations. - Leadership and innovative services to further community-based healthcare delivery. - Strengthening ties and collaborative efforts with other organizations that have common values and aims. - Innovative research and education in the delivery and financing of healthcare services. - Leadership in fostering an environment within which integrated delivery systems can be created and thrive. - Assistance to the membership in ensuring quality, increasing efficiency and effectiveness, containing costs, and enhancing revenue. A Board of Trustees – composed primarily of acute care hospital CEOs as well as hospital trustees, clinicians, and other healthcare executives – governs CHA, determining policy and direction for the Association. CHA members play an active role in the organization, serving on standing and special committees and subcommittees to offer input on critical policy considerations and decisions on CHA activities and focus.

Connecticut hospitals, community partners, and lawmakers are continuing to develop new approaches to addressing the root causes of gun violence. This initiative by Connecticut Children's and the Connecticut Department of Public Health demonstrates the state’s ongoing commitment to shoring up gun violence intervention and prevention efforts. “This funding opportunity seeks to foster community-driven solutions to reduce violence and enhance safety in neighborhoods across Connecticut,” the hospital said. Addressing Connecticut's critical healthcare workforce needs. Thank you Connecticut Office of the State Comptroller for hosting yesterday's roundtable discussion with CT Office of Workforce Strategy Executive Director Kelli-Marie Vallieres Vallieres, PhD Kelli-Marie and representatives from Connecticut’s higher education institutions and hospitals at Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University. Attendees discussed CT Health Horizons' efforts to enroll students in #healthcare-track programs and diversify the industry’s workforce, as well as opportunities for program augmentation and improvement. Together, we can build on efforts to expand educational and training opportunities, ease the path to careers in healthcare, and support workforce retention. We must maintain our progress in supporting and growing the healthcare workforce. #caringforct #healthcareworkforce #workforceretention #workforcerecruitment #healthcarejobs #ctjobs

Connecticut’s distressingly low Medicaid reimbursement rates lag significantly behind other states and create barriers to healthcare access for low-income residents. Connecticut’s chronic underfunding of Medicaid is also contributing to a cost shift that drives up what employers and consumers pay for healthcare. CHA agrees with state leaders that when considering ways the state can help support healthcare affordability and patient access to care, “Medicaid reimbursement should be toward the top of that list.” Read more in the Republican-American about how increasing Medicaid payments will advance health equity. https://lnkd.in/eyjntrPR

“Hopefully, next session we are able to move the needle and cross the finish line with Medicaid coverage for diapers,” Selina Osei, director of health equity and community engagement, CHA, told NBC News in a story examining diaper insecurity and how states are developing solutions. Throughout the 2024 Legislative Session, CHA joined community partners, legislators, and state officials to advocate for the passage of HB 5368, An Act Concerning Medicaid Coverage Of Diapers, which would have extended Medicaid coverage of diapers to children from birth to age three with certain health conditions. Though the bill didn’t pass this session, CHA continues to advocate for policy that provides this crucial resource to Connecticut families in need, fostering healthier children and communities. A study analyzing how Medicaid coverage would benefit families is a step in the right direction. No family should be forced to choose between putting a clean diaper on their baby or food on the table. https://lnkd.in/eaehp-eK
Diapers are unaffordable for many families. Now states are looking to Medicaid for help.

July is #NationalMinorityMentalHealthAwarenessMonth, an annual observance to underscore the unique challenges that affect the mental health of racial and ethnic minority and American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) populations. This year’s theme is Be the Source for Better Health: Improving Health Outcomes Through Our Cultures, Communities, and Connections. Connecticut hospitals remain committed to providing all people with high-quality, equitable, respectful care, and they are working with community partners to implement cross-sector initiatives that address social influencers of health, including social and emotional support, housing, diaper access, and food insecurity, which are all factors that impact mental well-being.
