Making Fibreglass Recycling a Reality

About us

Composite Recycling has pioneered a novel approach for recycling glass fibre-reinforced plastics (GFRP) into reclaimed glass fibres and pyrolysis oil, in an energy-efficient and economically viable way, such that they can be reused in the manufacturing of high-quality new composites. Fibreglass waste from boats hulls, wind turbine blades, airplane and auto interiors, etc, represents a mounting problem for the industry and for the environment. Our mission is to divert such waste away from landfill and incineration by transforming them into high-value secondary raw materials that can enter the circular economy. Our business is two-fold: (1) we service clients who need a better solution for disposing of their fibreglass waste, and (2) we supply the outputs to manufacturers who want to incorporate recycled content into their production.

Today the term ♻️ "recycling" ♻️ is often used, when the given process is more accurately characterized as "downcycling" - especially when it comes to fibreglass. So, what's the difference? 🔄 Recycling involves converting waste into new materials of similar quality, preserving their value and functionality. This process contributes to a circular economy, where resources are continuously reused. 🔽 Downcycling converts waste into new materials of lesser quality and reuse value. While it helps avoid the landfill (usually for one more cycle), it doesn’t preserve the material’s value. Examples of fibreglass downcycling: ▪ Chopping it into small pieces to use for construction filler ▪ Cutting out large pieces to use for bike shelters or playground equipment ▪ Shredding and burning it as fuel At Composite Recycling, we are committed to diverting fibreglass waste away from landfill and into high-quality, high-value new composites and plastics - conserving resources, reducing environmental impact, and helping bring #circularity to the #composites sector. 🌍✨ Get in touch to get into the circle! #Sustainability #Recycling #Downcycling #Greentech #Zerolandfill

**Facing rising landfill costs? 📈 There is a better option for composite waste disposal** Recently we took a sort of "road trip" in France to talk to current and potential clients of our soon-to-launch composite waste recycling unit, to better understand their business needs. And what we heard repeatedly was that landfill costs of composites are going up and up, eating into their bottom lines... This is happening not just in France, but across Europe as governments, concerned about impending EU directives around waste management - especially waste labeled 🔺"hazardous"🔺 like composites - and also facing capacity constraints of landfills, start to raise fees for landfilling, with the aim of encouraging organizations to find alternative means of disposal. Below illustrates a single example, across the channel in the UK, where starting next April, the cost of landfill waste is set to rise by an eye-popping 22% 👀 - affecting businesses, councils, and homeowners alike. But there is a better way. At Composite Recycling, we offer a sustainable recycling solution that can help companies avoid these rising costs - and invest in a more sustainable future for industry. 🌿🌿 🌱 Why Choose Us? ▪ Cost Savings: Our treatment fees are fixed, giving you greater cost visibility ▪ Circularity: Our team not only treats your waste, but closes the loop by producing high-quality outputs valued for reuse by manufacturers. ▪ CSR: We know companies face many internal & external stakeholders who want to see concrete action on sustainability. ▪ Environmental Impact: Avoiding landfilling composites - which degrade over time in landfills - keeps our planet cleaner. 🌍 Still sending your composite waste to landfill? 📞 Contact us today to have your waste tested so we can help you develop a better solution. #WasteManagement #ZeroLandfill #Cleantech #composites #circularity https://lnkd.in/eGUPuDK7

🌍 **Attention Manufacturing Companies in Europe: A New Approach for Fiberglass Waste ** Does your company manufacture with fiberglass and grapple with the disposal of production scrap? With 10-30% of total fiberglass produced ending up as scrap on the factory floor and destined for landfilling - while landfill rates are increasing - many manufacturers face significant cost and sustainability challenges. 🚯 At the same time, in EU countries like Austria, fiberglass is already banned from landfilling, incineration and export - leaving major industrial manufacturers there in an untenable position. These regulations will inevitably start to bite in more EU countries: the landfilling of fiberglass wind turbine blades, for example, is already prohibited in Germany, Finland and the Netherlands, with more countries sure to follow suit. ⛔ So whether for reasons of cost, CSR/sustainability, or compliance with demands of consumers or EU regulators, it's essential for this sector to clean up our act and identify sustainable waste management practices. At Composite Recycling, we have developed an advanced fiberglass recycling solution designed to help manufacturers manage waste more effectively and sustainably. **Get in touch with us today to learn more about our next generation recycling solution and how we can help you meet your #sustainability goals.** Together, we can lead the way in sustainability, reduce our environmental impact, and drive positive change in the industry. 🌟 #zerolandfill #cleantech #FiberglassRecycling #CircularEconomy #WasteManagement #CorporateResponsibility

Wishing everyone relaxing summer holidays when they come!

CEO & co-founder at Composite Recycling

Slipping away for a dose of summer R&R on the family sailboat. This boat is not only our annual retreat and family "happy place," but it actually provided the first spark of inspiration for Composite Recycling. I know that someday, we will need to retire her...but when that time comes, we want to do so sustainably, in a way that's best for land and sea - especially this sea that I love, the Mediterranean. Now is a moment to pause and reflect that this month marks 3 years since our company was founded - and it has been quite a voyage! Amazing adventures, proud achievements, and of course the occasional gale to test our crew...sometimes it even felt we were dangerously close to the rocks. But we have survived that first phase of the journey (most startups don't!), and I'm so proud to see us now pushing onward from start-up to scale-up phase, with big news coming up ! And through it all, we've had wonderful support from so many. Wishing you all a great summer - I hope everyone gets a moment to take a break with loved ones, and we look forward to sharing more of our adventures when we return, refreshed and ready for inspiring new shores ahead.

🔻 A Wind Turbine Blade "Boneyard" 🔻 As we push towards a greener future with wind energy, we must also address an emerging environmental hazard: the degradation of wind turbine blades, either in landfills (the main means of disposal today), or in dumps like this one we visited two weeks ago in Sweetwater, Texas. The blades are primarily made from fiberglass, which is known for its strength and durability. However, prolonged exposure to the sun and elements causes them to degrade: ▪ Microplastic Pollution: as the resin coatings break down, they release microplastics, contaminating soil and water and entering the food chain. ▪ Chemical Leaching: degrading blades can leach harmful chemicals, potentially disrupting local flora and fauna. ▪ Structural Debris: fragmented glass fibres break off and scatter, affecting land and marine environments, even being ingested by animals. While wind is a crucial element of our energy strategy, we must in parallel develop sustainable blade recycling solutions. 🌍🔄 🔜 That's exactly what we're doing, and we look forward to sharing images of the recycled samples from these "bones" soon. 📲 Get in touch if we can help your organization progress its sustainability plan. #zerolandfill #CleanEnergy #Sustainability #EnvironmentalImpact #WindEnergy #RenewableEnergy #Innovation #GreenFuture
