Nothing brings people 👨👨👦👦 together like food 🌮, and that’s why we’ve loved hosting our Summer Food Festivals at Community Shop over the last few months. Our amazing chefs 👩🍳 and members worked together to create some delicious summer recipes for our partners and hundreds of members from across our communities to enjoy. The events were part of Community Shop’s 10th Anniversary celebrations 🎉 and demonstrate the power that food has to bring people together. Thanks to everyone who helped make these so special 🙌

Meet Stuart 🧑, one of our amazing Community Shop members who has shared his story about mental health. Having struggled with his mental health for a number of years, Stuart joined Community Shop where one of our brilliant Impact Leads worked with him to find new ways to support his positive mental health. With 1 in 4 people experiencing mental health problems of some kind each year in England, Stuart's story is just one of many, and highlights the importance of the support that our Community Shop teams provide. Life-changing support like this can only be delivered thanks to our incredible partners, who allow us to unlock the value from their donated surplus stock and deliver a wide range of personal development programmes. Hello Hoyland! 👋 Come and take a look round our latest Community Shop, as we open the doors for the first time in Hoyland, Barnsley 🧡

📣We're delighted to announce that Community Shop Hoyland is now open! This is our 13th Community Shop and will provide hundreds of local people and families 👨👨👦👦 with access to deeply discounted food and household products 🛒, as well as life-changing learning and development programmes. Thanks to Coca-Cola Europacific Partners and Barnsley Council for their funding to help open our latest store, which will provide valuable, ongoing support to thousands of local families.

As we herald a new chapter for British politics, we look forward to working with the new Labour government to deliver on policy commitments which are critical for people and planet. Communities are in crisis. 7.3 million people skip meals weekly to stretch their food to feed their family. And yet the food waste mountain continues to grow. At Company Shop Group, we believe big challenges require big solutions, and we’re ready to collaborate with businesses, industry and Government to ensure no food needlessly goes to waste. We welcome the new Government’s commitment to champion a circular economy to reduce waste. Through our unique circular approach, we work with businesses from farm to fork to unlock maximum financial, social and environmental value from perfectly good surplus that would otherwise go to waste. The value is reinvested back into businesses and communities, whilst helping to preserve our environment. Leveraging insights from our social enterprise, Community Shop, we’ll also be continuing to advise the Government on the benefit of sustainable, holistic solutions for tackling food poverty at the root cause, as part of its commitment to ending reliance on emergency food parcels. Our approach helps to break dependency on long-term food aid, and empowers individuals and communities to be the best version of themselves by providing a hand-up, rather than a hand-out.

We're looking forward to celebrating great achievements from across the grocery industry at The Grocer Gold Awards 🏆 tonight. We might not be your average grocer 🏪, but we're delighted to have been shortlisted for Grocer of the Year. The team spent a brilliant few days at the Royal Highland Show last week, talking all things surplus and redistribution. Did you know... 👉 that by working with our partners, we redistributed 28m items in Scotland last year? 🌍 👉 in the last 12 months we've paid over £4.2m to the Scottish food and drink industry for surplus 🤝 👉 in the last five years, members at our Scottish stores have saved over £30m 💰 #thesurpluseffect

We were delighted to welcome Morrisons CEO Rami Baitiéh to Company Shop Group over the weekend. We’re proud to work with Morrisons to help them redistribute surplus stock, and this visit was an opportunity to show how we do it – taking millions of items each year and using them to support people, communities and the planet. Community Shop Tong St. opened in 2022 thanks to the support of Morrisons, and since then it has helped thousands of families across the community with access to deeply discounted food and life-changing learning and development programmes. We look forward to continuing to work closely together to identify more ways to capture surplus stock.

As part of Community Shop’s 10th anniversary celebrations🎉, we’re hosting some sizzling Summer Food Festivals across our stores. The sun 🌞 has finally come out this week and our Bewsey and Stocking Farm stores have brought together our partners and members for a feast of fun and flavour. The food festivals showcase the diverse communities we support, through a joint love of great food 🌮.
