Maternal health is the health of women throughout pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. It encompasses a range of factors that influence well-being during these stages, including physical, emotional, social, and economic aspects. Infant health focuses on the health and well-being of newborns and infants during the period from birth to the age of one year. Improving maternal and infant health directly impacts the overall health, well-being, and functioning of societies. Changemakers can advocate for increased funding for maternal healthcare services, improved access to prenatal and postnatal care, and paid leave policies. Implementing evidence-based practices, like integrating pre-pregnancy health screenings into primary care, providing rural healthcare sites with necessary training and equipment, and implementing maternal safety bundles within healthcare systems to ensure the delivery of high-quality maternal and infant care. IP3 ASSESS dashboards are developed by the IP3 team and available to IP3 ASSESS users to explore data for their community. Explore data for IP3's home town of Columbia, MO and see how IP3 ASSESS Data Dashboards work by viewing the newest dashboard: Thriving in Rural America. More than 46 million Americans live in rural areas, comprising 15% of the U.S. population. These rural communities are rich in assets that can be harnessed to promote health and well-being. Extreme Heat reports the percentage of days per year for which the daily maximum temperature is at or above the 90th percentile. Extreme heat, exacerbated by climate change, poses significant health risks, including heat-related illnesses and respiratory issues. Vulnerable populations, such as the elderly, young children, those with preexisting health conditions, and residents of urban areas with high air pollution, are particularly at risk. Extreme heat is the leading cause of weather-related deaths in the United States, surpassing hurricanes, tornadoes, and floods combined. Explore extreme heat data for your county for free on the Community Commons Community Indicator Library, a project that originated with IP3 ASSESS, a web-based data solution built for changemakers using data to advance equitable well-being. Simply select your county from the drop down at the top right of the screen. https://bit.ly/3Akgr5f

IP3 helps organizations and communities use data to power change-making work—to assess community conditions, monitor trends, prioritize areas for investment, and more. Through our data consultation services, we help clients identify the right indicators to meet their goals. Sometimes, this requires us to create new, custom measures. We create custom measures when the available indicators fail to adequately measure a concept, or when we want to examine a concept from a new or unique perspective. Learn more about our process and how IP3 can support your team in using data to drive community change work and/or constructing a custom measure here: https://bit.ly/46bKCaG #IP3Blog #IP3 #DataConsultation [Image description: Banners that read "New IP3 Blog" and "IP3 at Your Service: Constructing Custom Data Measures" on a collage background. https://bit.ly/469Vx4l is listed at the bottom.]

In community change work, we are often called upon to use data for different circumstances—to assess community conditions, monitor trends, and prioritize areas for investment. Gathering, organizing, and evaluating community data is one step in the process; using that data to create policy and system change is next. Detailed information accessed through publicly available data dashboards, indexes, and/or mapping tools can make a profound difference through informing policy and system change that builds on community assets and addresses gaps in resources and/or supports. Explore the second installment of the Our Favorite Data Sources series which highlights data sources that are great for browsing and provide sensemaking and context to support data interpretation here: https://bit.ly/3VWRL9R #DataSources #DataDashboard #DataInterpretation [Image description: A blue rectangle contains several logos of organizations and data sets along with text that reads "Our Favorite Data Sources Part II". Youth Not Working & Not in School reports the percentage of the population aged 16-19 years who are not enrolled in school and not working. Youth who are not in school and not working face a higher risk of negative outcomes in adulthood, including low incomes, employment challenges, and poor physical and mental health. Their limited skills and work history, coupled with a lack of financial resources to invest in skill development or qualifications, can hinder their access to good jobs and higher wages in the future.
