About us
We envision Seattle as a place where everyone – from teachers and artists to seniors on fixed incomes to young families – can set down roots and thrive. Our history is rooted in community. What started in Capitol Hill in the 1970s was the idea that everyone should live affordably in their neighborhood, in their community. Today, we own and maintain nearly 50 apartment buildings across the Seattle area, providing safe and affordable apartments to over 2,000 residents. We strive to develop amenities that not only meet the housing needs of our residents but also serve the community around them.

With your help, Community Roots raised over $38,000 for the Housing Stabilization Program. Your contributions will strengthen housing stability for up to 65 households—over half of the residents living at the Liberty Bank Building—as we explore long-term solutions to ongoing financial insecurity. It is this commitment to community that fuels our work to ensure every person has access to a safe, affordable, quality home. Here's to the power of community, the strength of shared goals, and the many possibilities that await us in 2024!

With your incredible generosity, Community Roots has reached nearly 70% of our fundraising goal for the Housing Stabilization Program. But the clock is ticking, and we still need your help filling the $13,000 gap before the end of 2023! A gift of any size can have a substantial impact on economic recovery for those who disproportionately bear burdens of rent debt. Will you join us in supporting housing stability for our low-income neighbors? Follow this link to give: https://lnkd.in/g2UPTA38

Community Roots Housing has set a goal of raising $40,000 for our 2023 end of year campaign to support the launch of the 2024 Housing Stabilization Program (HSP). The HSP is a pilot project supporting Community Roots residents at the Liberty Bank Building who carry overdue rent balances due to the economic aftershocks of COVID-19. For many low-income households, financial support alone – though impactful in the short term – is not enough to address insurmountable rent debt in the long term. The HSP takes a comprehensive approach to overdue rents by offering residents debt balance reductions combined with personalized, coordinated services that aim to address the “why” behind each household’s economic insecurity. More than just rental assistance, this program is a small-scale approach with large-scale potential to get residents out of the cycle of debt and back on their own tracks for success. HOW WILL YOUR GIFT MAKE A DIFFERENCE? Studies show that stable housing can have significant impacts on quality of life and overall wellness. A few of the many benefits include: - Better academic performance for youth - Fewer physical health problems - Improved cognitive development in children - Reduced stress, anxiety, and other mental health challenges - Lowered risk of eviction and homelessness With your help, Community Roots can work with residents to ensure stable housing today and positively shape our communities of tomorrow. Learn more about the Housing Stabilization Program on our website and give a gift as part of your seasonal charitable giving! Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gd6w4sRM

On October 25, 2023 nearly 200 people gathered to help Community Roots Housing and GenPride celebrate the grand opening of Pride Place, Washington's first affordable housing project designed to welcome LGBTQIA seniors and allies. Years of research (thanks, Karen Fredriksen Goldsen), community input, hard work, inspiration, and collaboration culminated in Capitol Hill's newest rainbow icon. If you missed the celebration this fall, join in on the fun now by watching this video where you'll get to learn more about the project and hear from a couple of the folks who call Pride Place home. P.S. Pride Place is now leasing! Know someone who might be interested in applying for an apartment or taking advantage of the new GenPride community center? Send them to www.prideplaceseattle.org
