About us

Division of Water: • Operates three water plants, oversees three in-stream reservoirs and one upground reservoir • Provides clean water to customers in Columbus and 23 suburban communities • Maintains water lines and our own Water Quality Assurance Laboratory Division of Power: • Full-service, publicly-owned, not-for-profit electric utility • Sells power to residential, commercial, and industrial customers to fund and maintain a citywide streetlight program • Also maintains ODOT’s freeway lights within city limits Division of Sewerage and Drainage: • Operates two wastewater treatment plants and the Compost Facility, serving Columbus and 26 suburbs • Maintains sanitary, stormwater, and combined sewers, along with the Franklinton Floodwall • Oversees Blueprint Columbus, a greener way to prevent rain water from entering our sanitary sewer system and part of a wet weather management plan to reduce sewer overflows Sustainable Columbus: • Housed at DPU, Sustainable Columbus focuses on optimizing internal city operations and working with external stakeholders to enhance and promote environmentally friendly policies throughout our community • Initiatives include the Climate Action Plan, Clean Energy Columbus, GreenSpot, and Sustainable Steps Current details about these elements and others can be found in our annual reports, available here: www.columbus.gov/utilities/publications/Department-Publications
