Thank you to the 30 Columbia team members from our Columbus DEI council and Operational Excellence – Technical Support team who joined the Charity Newsies last week to help area families prepare for the upcoming school year by providing them with clothes and school supplies. Our team members assisted with checking families in, measuring shoe sizes, making clothing selections and carrying the items to their car.

Recently, NiSource was recognized as the "Out of the Box" awardee by the University of Illinois Chicago for exceeding its target in monarch conservation by 33%. The award further recognizes NiSource's efforts to align the CCAA with the company’s Biodiversity Commitment. In the 2023 program year, NiSource implemented 8,013 adopted acres, conducting monitoring at 70 plots with an average of 98 milkweed stems and 38% nectar plant cover per habitat acre. NiSource also developed 20 biodiversity management plans for Key Biodiversity Areas noting strong alignment with the CCAA's conservation measures. This recognition is a testament to NiSource's successful year of Monarch CCAA and biodiversity implementation and its ongoing commitment to transforming rights-of-way into pollinator habitats. On Friday, we cut the ribbon on our new weld shop in Gahanna. This new facility will be a space for company and contract welders across the NiSource footprint to train, with 10 welding bays, a training classroom and state-of-the-art ventilation system. We are also partnering with organizations including Junior Achievement of Central Ohio, Columbus State Community College, Columbus Urban League, Girl Scouts of Ohio's Heartland and Godman Guild Association to showcase what a career in welding can offer the next generation of workers.

Did you catch us and the Hocking Hills Children's Museum in the June edition of American Gas Association’s American Gas magazine? We’re so proud of the Columbia Gas dig pit at the museum, where children (and adults!) can learn about natural gas safety and safe digging in a secure and fun environment. The 10-by-10 dig pit at the Hocking Hills Children’s Museum is filled with 1,120 pounds of sand-like rubber granules for children to dig in and find real (but not functional) gas pipeline below. On Saturday, we joined the Hilltop community in central Ohio for the Hilltop Summer Safety Bash to talk about our favorite topic here at Columbia: Safety! The event by the Ohio Department of Public Safety shares important resources with hundreds of community members and creates a space for children to play and learn about safety. Events like these give us the chance to meet with community members, offer critical natural gas safety information and connect customers with resources that they might not know about.
