Today, we’re excited to release a new report summarizing what 31 Gen Z and Millennial leaders have to say about working with older people to solve pressing problems — aka “cogeneration” — and how it can be improved. It includes 8 key insights that stretch far beyond predictable stereotypes and 9 concrete recommendations for older leaders, colleagues and allies who want to work with younger generations more effectively! The quotes from the young leaders, ages 18-31, really make this report come to life. Please check it out and let us know what you think in the comments. What stood out to you and why? https://lnkd.in/g_cCZh5v A special thanks to all of the young leaders who participated in this study (Ariana Jasmine Afshar, Hulissa Aguilar, Brea Baker, Christopher Barnard, Allison Begalman, Sophie Beren, Dillon St. Bernard, Serena Bian, Jordan Bowman, Sydne Clarke, Thanasi D., Katie Eder, Kenna Embree, Jada Ford, Emily Garcia-Green, Natalie Green, Nonya Khedr, Mahmoud Khedr, Eve Levenson, Zhailon Levingston, Manu Meel, Ashwath N., Brittany T. On Tuesday, Duncan Magidson and I took our "CoGen @Work" roadshow to #ClimateWeekNYC where we participated in a spectacular session curated by force-of-nature Pooja Tilvawala. It was gratifying to see that the idea of cross-generational collaboration is gaining traction in the climate space. A few takeaways: ⚡ ⚡ Anyone seeking to effectively work across generations should check out We Are Family Foundation's global study on best practices for intergenerational collaboration. https://lnkd.in/eTwHXpfG ⚡ ⚡ We will be watching Youth Impact Council, a new org launching soon with folks like Sarah Ferguson's (yep, Dutchess of York!), Pooja Tilvawala and Kevin J. Patel bring more youth leaders around the world into the spaces of decision-making. ⚡ ⚡ If you're speaking about working across generations, try whenever possible to do that alongside someone older or younger.

When CoGenerate and Citizen University launched a project to deepen cogenerational ties, our goal was to get teens excited about working alongside older adults to create change. What we discovered surprised us. Teens didn’t need convincing to work across generations. They already know that to create the change they want to see, they need to partner with adults (like teachers, school administration, city councils, etc.) It’s a prerequisite. What they actually need are more opportunities to partner with older generations and, frankly, better partnerships. Partnerships that require adults and organizations to show up differently. This video captures pairs of older and younger people talking about what it takes to cogenerate, including asking meaningful questions, meeting as equals to build relationships and trust, encouraging all to participate equally, and truly sharing power.
