The new San Diego Humane Society Adoptions Center has been selected for the Engineering News-Record Regional Renovation/Restoration Award of Merit! This award celebrates the design and construction of the renovation, which would not have been possible without the incredible team that collaborated together since the project first began in 2017. The goal of the SDHS Adoptions Center renovation was to maximize the quality of animal habitats, enhance guest experiences, and maximize efficiency for staff. These improvements were made with the hopes of decreasing the animals’ average length of stay. Meet Matilda Kenrick! Originally from Palo Alto, Matilda is a polyglot (she speaks Spanish, Swedish, English, and French!) and our contract specialist in San Diego. Outside of work, Matilda loves to spend time with her dog at the beach to take a ‘paws’ from the daily hustle and bustle. Matilda says her three defining traits are “silly, outgoing, and ambitious,” so it makes sense her favorite movie is Legally Blonde, and we think Elle Woods would agree! #MeettheTeam #OfficeLife #COARDesignGroup #LifeatCOAR

Construction on the Irvine Animal Care Center is officially underway! COAR worked closely with the City of Irvine to design a renovation and expansion of the existing Animal Care Center, making room for a new building entrance, veterinary suite addition, and renovated animal habitats. To maintain safe and efficient animal care operations throughout the renovation, construction will occur in phases. The initial phase includes the new building entrance addition and veterinary suite addition. Phase two will increase housing capacities for cats and small animals and bolster the existing dog housing. In the final phase, animals will return to their new and improved housing! Swipe to see the design of the updated facility and stay tuned to watch this project come to life! #IrvineAnimalShelter #CityofIrvine #DesignforCommunity Irvine Animal Care Center

These four townhomes in the heart of Sebastopol, Sonoma County, will offer affordable housing for Sonoma County residents. Each townhome will have a private backyard patio, front porch, and a one-car garage. We are proud to be working with such an amazing organization that works to improve communities through housing across the globe. When COAR set out to redesign the San Diego Humane Society Adoptions Center, one of the top priorities was creating comfortable space for the 13,474 dogs San Diego Humane Society houses on average every year. The COAR & SDHS project team went to the drawing boards to brainstorm ways the new design could maximize space for dog housing while providing opportunities for visitors and dogs to bond. The design team decided to use a unique design that soon came to be known as a “sawtooth configuration.” Learn more at the link below! #sdhs #sandiegohumanesociety #sawtoothconfiguration #designforcommunity

Originally from San Diego, Loretta is our newest project manager in the Santa Rosa office! She started her construction/architecture career framing houses with her brothers who are both carpenters. If she wasn’t working as a project manager, Loretta says she would be an oceanographer, which could certainly give her fishing game an extra edge. As a lover of all things outdoors, Loretta is most inspired by the forest and loves to spend her free time fly fishing. Loretta has two horses, named Jiggs and Dakota, which makes sense given her status as the office resident country music expert. She lives by the quote “if it makes you smile when it’s all done, then it was all worth it.” Thanks for keeping us smiling, Loretta! 🤠 #MeetTheTeam #OfficeLife #COARDesignGroup #LifeatCOAR

We are very excited to announce that we have been selected, alongside our Design-Build partner, Pinner Construction Co., Inc., the California Highway Patrol Santa Fe Springs Replacement Project! We kicked off the project with an all-hands meeting hosted by SWAP Integration where we evaluated our project schedule, navigated any obstacles, and established clear project goals and expectations. As part of the Historic District of the Norwalk State Hospital, this new facility’s exterior will feature the materials, color palette, forms, and scale of the surrounding Historic District Development. The entire facility will be designed with extra attention to energy efficient and environmentally sensitive solutions. Once complete, the new CHP Santa Fe Springs Facility will serve as functional, safe and secure offices for the 135 law enforcement professionals and civilian support staff that will utilize it every day. #CHPSantaFeSprings #CaliforniaHighwayPatrol #HistoricNorwalkStateHospital California Department of General Services California Highway Patrol Lynn Capouya, Inc.
