A global knowledge portal for climate change and development practitioners.
About us
Climatelinks is a global knowledge portal for USAID staff, implementing partners, and the broader community working at the intersection of climate change and international development. The portal curates and archives technical guidance and knowledge related to USAID’s work to help countries mitigate and adapt to climate change. We aim for this portal to improve climate change and development programming, amplifying the impact of USAID’s investments into the future. We hope Climatelinks becomes a place for development practitioners to help identify and refine practices, and to inform USAID’s technical direction in areas of information gaps. Climatelinks is a venue for knowledge sharing, implemented through the USAID Advancing Capacity for the Environment program. Climatelinks does not represent the views of USAID or the U.S. Government. Please visit USAID’s Website for official government information.

The USAID Indonesia Urban Resilience, Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene project works to improve the performance of water utilities across Indonesia to increase access to water and sanitation services for the urban poor. This includes supporting and training professionals like Robby Saputra, who grew up without access to safe drinking water and now works as a chemist for the Pontianak water utility to improve other people's access to safe water. Read more about Robby's story and USAID's work in this blog originally published on USAID Global Waters.

Natural hazards caused $380 billion in economic losses last year and less than a third of those losses were covered by insurance. As climate-related shocks increase, solutions that help those affected by natural hazards recover and rebuild more quickly are crucial. One option? Parametric insurance. Parametric insurance pays policyholders a predetermined amount based on the occurrence of a specific “trigger" event, like flooding or extreme heat. Because the payouts are based on predetermined parameters—such as rainfall levels or heat indexes—rather than actual damages, the claims process moves faster and is less costly to manage. Through the USAID Climate Finance for Development Accelerator (USAID CFDA), USAID recently awarded four grants to companies working across the parametric insurance space. https://lnkd.in/eR4BXnZ7

Agriculture and hydrometeorology research center AGRHYMET and SERVIR WEST AFRICA are working to bridge the gap between medium-range weather forecasts and seasonal predictions in West Africa. This will give farmers more time to prepare for events like floods or drought, which are becoming more common and unpredictable due to climate change. SERVIR Global

Sustainable livelihood sources like ube farming give farmers a viable alternative to destructive practices like slash and burn and charcoal production. In turn, sustainable ube farming helps communities and ecosystems become more resilient to climate change.
