A global knowledge portal for climate change and development practitioners.
About us
Climatelinks is a global knowledge portal for USAID staff, implementing partners, and the broader community working at the intersection of climate change and international development. The portal curates and archives technical guidance and knowledge related to USAID’s work to help countries mitigate and adapt to climate change. We aim for this portal to improve climate change and development programming, amplifying the impact of USAID’s investments into the future. We hope Climatelinks becomes a place for development practitioners to help identify and refine practices, and to inform USAID’s technical direction in areas of information gaps. Climatelinks is a venue for knowledge sharing, implemented through the USAID Advancing Capacity for the Environment program. Climatelinks does not represent the views of USAID or the U.S. Government. Please visit USAID’s Website for official government information.

Years of conflict have led to significant underdevelopment in rural and hard-to-reach communities in Colombia. USAID/Colombia launched the Energy for Peace program, which aims to provide reliable, low-cost, and sustainable renewable energy to increase productivity in communities that are key to the implementation of the country's Peace Accords. USAID believes that providing energy to these communities will generate sustainable economic and social development over time. https://lnkd.in/ex2cciKj

The impacts of climate change can vary drastically based on gender, class, race, ethnicity, disability, geography, and other categories of identity. Individuals with multiple forms of exclusion in developing countries, where the ability to adapt to climate change is more limited, experience the negative impacts of climate change disproportionately. This underscores the importance of applying a gender-sensitive and inclusive lens in mitigation and adaptation efforts. This factsheet from USAID's Comprehensive Action for Climate Change Initiative highlights how the initiative is integrating gender equality and social inclusion into its work. https://lnkd.in/erG98NjP

Facing the challenges of El Niño and drought, farmer Corazon Badie has implemented an innovative solution by establishing a swale connected by infiltration canals, with support from USAID, The Coca-Cola Company Foundation Philippines and the Negros Economic Development Foundation. 🌾💧 This method secures, stores, and replenishes water, helping farmers adapt to climate change. Embracing nature-based solutions is key to safeguarding livelihoods and ensuring a sustainable #watersecure Philippines! 🌱🌍 DAI USAID Global Waters Climatelinks

Climate change negatively affects human health in numerous ways. Integrating climate considerations into health programs ensures they remain effective and resilient in the face of these new challenges. Here are four real-life ways Climate Information Services are helping health programs shift to better respond to our changing climate: ⚠️ Climate-informed early warning and response systems for malaria in Ethiopia ⛈️ Anticipatory action spearheaded by International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies - IFRC to reduce the impact of extreme weather events on health ⚕️ PEPFAR’s El Nino response to combat malnutrition and support HIV-affected households ☀️ A health early warning system to reduce extreme heat impacts in Senegal To learn more about these initiatives and their impact, read our latest blog: https://lnkd.in/eC76sWMv

Climate change is making typhoons, landslides, and floods more intense, harming vital water systems. 🌧️ USAID is partnering with local governments in Palawan to upgrade water infrastructure for better #climate resilience. This includes replacing fragile PVC pipes with durable cement-lined steel ones and redesigning exposed pipes to fit the natural landscape. These improvements will help ensure reliable #water access during climate emergencies. 🌿💧🔨 Climatelinks DAI USAID Global Waters
