(Someone, do that math!) 🎉 Shiro Wachira (Head of Portfolio Services, Factor[e] Ventures) who wears her Venture Capital and development hats, managing portfolio companies that include agricultural solutions and ensuring paths out of poverty; PLUS others yet to speak (TBA)! Friends are displaced, their homes flooded, relying on the kindness & generosity of strangers for basic needs, even seeing mules haul food & supplies to areas inaccessible by car due to fissures in paved roads. A link has been added in comments should you wish to support which is NOT an endorsement by Climatebase. If you have other organizations that you prefer, please take action in helping others, whatever your personal approach. 🙏 Thank you!! * And YES, the first line of this post "Food, glorious food!" is yet another entertainment reference to a musical! Helpful recap by Climatebase and Abigail Bassett on the latest report from The Global Climate Project, although the news is dire. “Warming that was once inconceivable is now perhaps likely.” -Robert Jackson, a Stanford University climate scientist and chair of the Global Carbon Project Other reading: https://lnkd.in/gK8U6xRs https://lnkd.in/g9dae9pM #methane #globalwarming #carbon

Earlier today, I was in a quick conversation with a hiring manager in the climatetech space. They asked me if I had any examples of my work on *non-gaming* consumer mobile apps... ...and I was able to reference Accountable, the climate-friendly diet app we worked on as a Climatebase Cohort 5 Capstone Project! While the project itself kind of fizzled out after Climatebase, given that everyone (including myself) got busy with finding work, new jobs, grad school etc., we collectively got a lot of great work done on market research, product outlining, UI / UX, and even building a simple prototype. And it was ready to forward to an HM earlier today! In other words, it fell right into Climatebase's argument for Capstones: proving that you are serious about solving the climate crisis while also demonstrating that your skillset translates to the new domain. So, regardless of how this particular interaction works out, thank you to Climatebase for bringing us all together to work on Accountable. And thank you again to Ian Christie, Jair Oballe, Tolu Garcia, Rebecca Sand, Danielle (Musa) Mullen, and many others for contributing your time, energy and talent to the project ❤️ #climatetech #climatebase

Impact Entrepreneur | Chief of Staff | Innovation manager @Bosch 🚀 | To change the world we start inside. 💖

With the @NY Climate Week kicking off this week, I thought this was an opportune moment to share a little secret project so far. I have been doing a ton of reflecting on my career in the last weeks and months and see a huge opportunity in moving entrepreneurial talent and resources to solve some of the big challenges we are facing with climate adaptation, mitigation, and engineering innovation to stay within our planetary boundaries. I feel this is a means to work toward eco-social equity. As Dr. Jonathan Foley puts it - Cliamte Solutions fix equity. Three weeks ago, I was accepted into the Climatebase Fellowship program this fall as part of Cohort 6. The 12-week program is a Climate career accelerator, full of incredible content from Neil Yeoh of OnePointFive, keynotes by thought-leaders in the space Like Sophie Purdom from Planeteer Capital, inspiring sessions on impact capital for zebras from Claire Raffel and Tim Freundlich, expert panels, and so many wonderful driven community members sharing inspiring capstone projects. Loved the talk with Shreenath R. and David P. on starting out to build a start-up in the space. Loved Dr. @Thomas Hale take on the policy work from Oxford towards the long Climate challenges. I have begun to realize the optimism, creativity, stories and narratives, grit and genius of exceptional people across different walks of life, coming together to solve problems. I learnt ideas from California's energy distribution system to the global south leaps in Agtech. I am recognizing my relentless desire and excitement to learn and wanted to share the opportunities where we can do things that matter most. The science, the technology, the underlying business incentives, policy frameworks and grass movements are perspectives that are filling gaps in my knowledge towards the climate phenomenon. Beyond all - more than anything, it is the community that is making this experience phenomenal. Evan Hynes, Kendall Jenkins, Vesselina Apostolova, David P., Magda Kufrej (she/her), Thank you for creating an open space. The people from the cohort the scientists & researchers, communication experts, consultants, policymakers, journalists, engineers, meteorologists, designers, and architects who bring in perspectives from across the world, and their varied definitions of sustainability to what it means to care for the people and the planet is truly nourishing my thinking! I hope to share this with all of you. One thing I know for sure: We ought to DREAM BIG when it comes to Climate equity. We need entrepreneurial hearts beating for the Climate eco-social equity. We need to stray away from what exists to create the change. 🚀 Looking forward to sharing more as we go along! hashtag #ClimateAction #ClimateAdaption #Climateinvesting #VCtowardsecosocialequity #impactinvesting #optimism #climatecommunity #NYClimatecommunity
