Climate Clock

Non-profit Organizations

One Deadline. Many Lifelines.

About us

The Climate Clock is one of the most dynamic climate campaigns in the world today, melding art, science, technology, and grassroots organizing to get the world to #ActInTime. The project is centered on a simple tool: a clock that counts down the critical time window to reach zero emissions (our “Deadline”), while tracking our progress on key solution pathways (“Lifelines”). By showing us what we need to do by when, the Clock frames our critical mission — a rapid and just transition to a safe climate future — and puts it at the very forefront of our attention. Since its famous launch in New York in September 2020, Climate Clock teams have sprung up across the world from Chiapas to Kazakhstan, from Korea to Glasgow. Join in.

How to get involved in climate activism It was hard for me to start activism. I was nervous about standing on the streets to hold a climate strike sign, so I understand. Some of us might even feel like our actions will not make any difference. Every small action counts, no one is too small to make a difference and no action is too small to transform this world and make it a better place for all of us. Here are some ways to get started: Educate yourself: This is the first thing that I did. I carried out research, read a lot, watched many speeches to understand what climate change really was and what climate action could look like. Use your voice and your platform: With your voice, you can raise awareness about climate solutions and with your platform, you can amplify the work of other people. You can also share articles and posts that can help other people learn more about the climate crisis. Take action: This could look like signing and sharing petitions, participating in a climate strike, writing to your leaders, or starting a grassroots project in your community. Support youth climate organizations by Volunteering, donating, and amplifying their work. Engage in climate conversations: I love talking to my family about climate issues and you could do the same with your family and friends. Remember, no action is too small to create a sustainable future for all. Share your own climate activism story and ideas in the comments! #climateactivism #sustainability #makeadifference

Doomsday narratives are not welcoming to climate spaces. From time to time, people try to frame the Climate Clock this way and that's why Andrew Boyd, co-founder of Climate Clock, explains why it is in fact a how-to-save-the-world clock. Our lifelines are an important reminder that not false solutions can't be accepted and that delay means nothing else besides denial. Let's #ActInTime

Urgencies are different for each territory and this was one the main points highlighted during a community informative event at the Bahamas. Government representatives discussed their department/ministries efforts to combat climate change impacts now and in future. The Bahamas' climate change and health team along with a team from DEPP (Department of Environment Planning & Protection) stayed in Rawson Square to answer any questions from residents and tourists regarding the event and future plans of both organizations. The country has been developing a National Adaptation Plan and many awareness actions are part of their goal to share with local communities what is being done. Phillip Swann, Director of Public Health, Dr. Michael Darville,, Minister of Health & Wellness, Vaughn Miller, Minister of Environment & Natural Resource, Fox-Deveaux, a representative of Ministry of Agriculture & Marine Resources First Assistant, and Dr. Rhianna Neely, Director of the Department of Environment Planning & Protection were part of the event. #ActInTime

Let's highlight the youth fighting for climate action across the globe for #internationalyouthday! The Climate Clock team, including multiple youth, in Uganda rose to the occasion for #ClimateEmergencyDay! 🌎 They led a street march to demand action from decision-makers such as banks, insurance companies, and the government. What were they marching for? 🛑 Stopping the EACOP, or the East African Crude Oil Pipeline. The EACOP is a project supported by oil giants to build a pipeline right through the heart of Africa. This project would: 👥 Displace native communities living in the area 🙈 Endanger wildlife and cause habitat fragmentation 🛢Promote dangerous fossil fuel usage and recklessly extract oil reserves To protect our climate from further endangerment, we must demand that decision-makers #ActInTime. ⏳ The clock is ticking. My story: How I became a climate activist. In 2018, I started researching some of the challenges facing the people in my country, Uganda. I learned that climate change was one of those challenges. I was surprised at how serious the problem was. Of course, I had learned about climate change in school, but I didn’t realize how urgent of a crisis it was. I decided to read more about climate change and its impacts on people’s lives. I read about the impacts of this crisis on communities in Uganda. These included droughts, floods, and extreme weather events, which were devastating people's livelihoods and threatening their way of life. Farms, homes, schools, and businesses were being destroyed because of these disasters. I felt I had to do something, and I did. I found out about the Fridays For Future movement, started by Greta Thunberg, and thought to myself that I could do exactly this to raise awareness about the impacts of climate change in my country, Uganda. It was not easy to hold my first climate strike, but I did in the first week of January 2019. I started organizing climate strikes and even traveled to international climate conferences to demand action from world leaders. Today, after half a decade, I am glad that I started. It is not always easy doing activism work, but it is worth it. I have seen the power of collective action and how that can make a difference in our communities. We must hold our leaders accountable, make a just and equitable transition to renewable energy, and protect the most vulnerable people and areas. If you are passionate about climate activism, let’s connect and work together towards a sustainable future for present and future generations. #climatejustice #climateactivism #sustainability

This year, Climate Clock Côte d'Ivoire focused on the critical issue of forest cover. Forests are vital in reducing CO2 emissions, but Côte d'Ivoire has seen a drastic reduction from 16 million hectares to less than 3 million. Here’s what the team did on Climate Emergency Day: 🌱 Reforestation in Abidjan: Amid rapid urbanization, they planted nearly 1,000 trees to bring green spaces back to the urban environment. 🎓 Educating Youth: Through the Climate Frisk card game, they taught young people about the causes and effects of climate change, drawing from the ICCS report. They also shared solutions suggested by the Climate Clock. 📢 Online Campaign: Following this, they ran an online campaign to present their demands to restore forest cover to Ivorian authorities. Stay tuned to hear how other teams got on during Climate Emergency Day. #4Years #ClimateClock #ClimateEmergencyDay #ActInTime Roland Olivier DEDI African Youth Initiative on Climate Change Zimbabwe (AYICCZim) Lobby Climatique des Citoyens - CCL France Elizabeth Wathuti , O.G.W Abraham Bugre Laura Léa Saleh
