As a leader in organic and the first kid's snack bar brand to be Climate Neutral Certified, Zbar has proudly joined forces with nonprofit KABOOM! by committing a $1M partnership to help communities nationwide build nature-based playspaces for kids, focusing on areas that are lacking access to green space or opportunities for outdoor recreation. On average, children in the U.S. spend only 7 minutes each day engaged in unstructured outdoor play and nearly 30 million kids live farther than a 10-minute walk from the nearest park. Additionally, traditional playgrounds and schoolyards can often act as "heat islands'' making kids’ outdoor playtime dangerously warm. The multi-year contribution will support KABOOM!'s goals to increase play equity for children across the U.S, and create more sustainable playspaces by investing in research and new programming focused on climate-forward playground design. We loved hosting the first outdoor play Design Jam Day in partnership with KABOOM! where we turned rocks and sticks into endless possibilities with the help of our imaginations and reimagined outdoor playspaces. Since 1999, CLIF BAR has been supporting the work of Breast Cancer Prevention Partners (BCPP) whose mission is to identify and eliminate our exposure to toxic chemicals and radiation linked to breast cancer and other cancers. One of the ways that we have supported them over the years is through their Climb Against the Odds in beautiful Mount Shasta, CA, by sending two CLIF BAR volunteer climbers each year to raise money and reach the summit in honor of breast cancer prevention. Each climb is an amazing and empowering experience where participants get to challenge themselves to reach new heights on Mount Shasta, a 14,179 foot peak in the Cascade Mountain Range, while raising funds to continue Breast Cancer Prevention Partners' great research and work being done. We’re incredibly proud of our 2024 climbers, Leah Iocco and Natasha Fernandez, for their commitment, fundraising efforts and support of the cause!

This week we welcomed Kevin Murphy as the new Clif Bar and King Arthur Baking Company Endowed Chair in Organic Grain Breeding and Innovation at the Washington State Breadlab. Dr. Murphy’s extensive background collaborating with farmers and organizations in western Washington, establishing WSU’s organic wheat breeding program, and personal love of breeding grains, is just a glimpse at why we’re so proud to have him on board. Kevin will be taking over the role from his mentor and our previous endowed chair, Dr. Stephen Jones who launched the Breadlab in 2011. Dr. Jones will continue to work in research, germplasm commercialization, and policy at the Burlington, Washington lab.
