Yesterday, the City of Winder received its first TSPLOST check, delivered by Barrow County Government County Manager Srikanth Yamala. Transportation Local Option Sales Tax dollars are earmarked for specific transportation projects as approved by voters in Nov. 2023. Mayor Terrell says, "We have had a number of people express concern with this being another tax. Remember, estimates from the state of Georgia point out that 30-33% of this tax is likely paid for by people that do not live in Barrow County but who use our roads and infrastructure as they pass through. The funds collected also have specific spending requirements such as roads and infrastructure.”

CITY OF WINDER RECOGNIZED IN NATIONAL FISCAL FLUENCY CHALLENGE The City of Winder’s communications team, including Communications Director Katie Strickland and Media Production Specialist Jacob Lincoln, was recently awarded an honorable mention in the prestigious Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA)'s Fiscal Fluency Challenge for producing an informative video series detailing Winder’s FY 24 Proposed Budget. The GFOA's national initiative recognizes innovative efforts to make financial information clear and accessible. One of the goals of this campaign was to simplify complex budget information, making it more understandable for the average resident. The full-length video premiered during a Council work session in May of 2023; subsequently, the team rolled out shorter, easy-to-watch clips weekly on the City’s social media platforms. "We’re proud of the communications team's commitment to excellence and their consistent work to clearly communicate with the residents of Winder. Today is Maintenance Monday, and we’d like to highlight our building maintenance technician Mathew Redd. Mathew has been with the City of Winder for two years and helps maintain our facilities. Light bulbs and fixtures, broken pipes, electrical, plumbing, construction, roofing—you name it, and he’s probably done it. (He even rescued a family of raccoons recently… but that’s a story for another day!) 🦝 Mathew wears a smile on his face, and his easygoing manner puts people at ease. We appreciate his strong work ethic and extensive knowledge in a variety of fields. “I like my job; I get to do something new every day and interact with staff from all over the City. I also love working events because I get to meet residents and visitors and make people happy.” Thanks for your service, Mathew! 🫡
