We are thrilled to share the incredible success of our recent Waters of Wilson Spring Clean-Up event that took place on May 4th. Thanks to the dedication and hard work of 83 amazing volunteers, we managed to remove 2,030 pounds of trash from our community! Together, we cleaned 15 miles across 7 different sites, making a significant impact on our environment and enhancing our community's quality of life. Several city departments were involved in this event but a special shoutout goes to our fantastic organizers and team leads from both our Stormwater Division and Water Resources Division. Your leadership and commitment were key to making this event such a success. A team from Wilson Energy competed in the 61st annual NC Association of Municipal Electric Systems (NCAMES) Lineman Rodeo in Concord, NC. The rodeo tests linemen’s skill in many different areas they face both daily and during storm restoration. Training for and competing in the rodeo keep their skills sharp to serve all our Wilson Energy customers! The team includes Ryan Black, Dawson Batts, Thomas Morrisette, Logan Whitley, Connor Franks and Brandon Proctor. Ryan Black came in 5th overall! Congratulations to the entire Wilson Energy team. Historic Downtown Wilson had the pleasure of hosting North Carolina Department of the Secretary of State, Elaine Marshall and staff for a quick visit with some Wilson small businesses. They toured three places of business, where owners, Greg & Alex Mason of Treat Yo’ Self Bakery, Shawna Moses of Samora Naturals, and Mahalia and Ryan Witter-Merithew of Casita Brewing Company were able to tell their stories and talk about why they chose to be downtown. The tour ended with lunch at The Corner Deli. Secretary Marshall is passionate about small businesses and shared information regarding the Rural RISE NC - Resources for Innovators, Start-Ups, and Entrepreneurs initiative - check out sosnc.gov/rural_rise/index for more small business information and resources. Hundreds of people came out this morning to welcome professional baseball back to Wilson County. City officials broke ground along with our partners -- Wilson County Government, NC , NSV Development, Wilson Tourism Development Authority and the Milwaukee Brewers/Carolina Mudcats -- for the new stadium that will host its first game, we hope, in spring 2026. It might be minor league ball, but Wilson's reception was nothing less than major league. We sincerely thank everyone who came out for the groundbreaking and listened to Milwaukee Brewers General Manager Matt Arnold (pictured) and others speak about the project.
