One (and potentially only) positive impact of the drought: Low lake levels will allow us to more easily do maintenance work on Cheney. https://lnkd.in/gTme5q9J

Did you know roughly 1 in 6 Kansans get their drinking water from Wichita? Tomorrow, we cut the ribbon on the new water treatment plant, called Wichita Water Works. It is the largest infrastructure project in Wichita’s history, able to deliver up to 120 million gallons of water a day and better respond to the drought with the ability to better treat ground water. Construction of the facility is complete, and next steps will be to test and train on running the new facility, which will be done by summer of next year.

Why doesn't Wichita just use El Dorado as an alternative source of water? Quick fact: it's something we have explored, and it wouldn't help when we most need it - during drought conditions - even if it was possible. https://lnkd.in/gsJNtJXf

CNL Projects, LK Architecture and the City of Wichita invite artists and artist teams with a demonstrated history of completing complex, permanent, outdoor public art projects (and/or other relevant experiences) to submit their qualifications for one of three public art commissions for the Arkansas River Public Art Project. This project aims to enhance the aesthetics, safety, and accessibility of the Arkansas Riverfront through downtown Wichita, while building upon its character and topography to create unique experiences and spaces for the public. The project will complement and support adjacent development cohesively and seamlessly, creating opportunities for public art to enhance the experience of the riverfront and Wichita. Learn more and submit qualifications at https://bit.ly/4dkx0LT by November 4, 2024.

Why not go to Stage 3 of the drought? Stage 3 of the drought response will be discussed should water levels within Cheney’s conservation pool reach a 12-month average of below 50%. For reference, the current level is at about 67%. In stage 3 of the drought response plan, all outdoor watering for non-exempt customers is prohibited. This would include lawn and non-vegetable garden watering, private pool use and more. Learn more about stage 3: https://lnkd.in/gfFDiiXH

Water is a finite resource. It's up to all of us to conserve it and secure it for future generations. Everyday behaviors can have a big impact and it can start on your lawn. 🚱 Your lawn only needs 1 to 1.5 inches of water/week, varying by grass type. 🚱 Water before 10 a.m. and only water once a week 🚱 Don't water so long that it runs down the street or on the sidewalk https://lnkd.in/gKdAdJmn
