CITY INITIATES OPERATION SPLASH - The City of Tucson's Department of Transportation and Mobility (DTM) initiated its Operation Splash campaign in an effort to protect the traveling public during storms. Crews from the DTM's Streets Maintenance Division today, June 17, began to deliver and stage barricades to hundreds of dip crossings throughout the city. During the monsoon, DTM Street Maintenance staff members are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, through mid-September. As washes flood, crews will close roadways at dip crossings and washes using the more than 500 barricades placed on the side of the roadways, near the crossings. For the ninth consecutive year, DTM will assist residents concerned with flooding by offering free sandbags in the east parking lot of Hi Corbett Field, 700 S. Randolph Way, at Reid Park. The self-serve sandbag site will open ahead of the first predicted storm. Sand and sandbags will be provided by DTM staff, but residents should bring their own shovels. There is a limit of 10 sandbags per vehicle. Remember, a barricade in place on a roadway is a sign that unsafe conditions exist ahead. https://lnkd.in/gjkjSVCv https://lnkd.in/gHQ--EBG #drivesafe #community #protect #public #travel

CITY OF TUCSON AWARDED $2.5 MILLION IN STATE TAX CREDITS FOR MORE AFFORDABLE HOUSING - The Arizona Department of Housing is awarding the City of Tucson $2.5 million in Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) funding to build 66 affordable housing units on North Stone Avenue. This LIHTC is the second tax credit granted to the City’s Housing and Community Development (HCD) department in just two years to build affordable housing as part of the City’s Housing Affordable Strategy for Tucson (HAST). The new development is another important piece of the Thrive in the 05 initiative, which will strengthen public and private investments in the 2.3-square-mile area of Oracle Road and Miracle Mile. The 1.3-acre site in Ward 3 is located on the lot once occupied by the Bum Steer nightclub. Neighborhood residents suggested the name Sugar Hill on Stone to honor the history of Sugar Hill, one of Tucson’s historic Black neighborhoods, and one of the few areas in Tucson where post-World War II Black families could buy a home. Sugar Hill on Stone is the second project developed by the City of Tucson’s nonprofit development arm, El Pueblo Housing Development. https://lnkd.in/gyBtnDxC #Housing #Comminuty #Grant #Awarded #Affordable #Millions
