SYL Goes National – to Washington, DC! On May 9, a dozen members of Suwanee Youth Leaders participated in the inaugural National School Redesign Showcase in Washington, DC hosted at the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg Center. Throughout the past school year, these students from North Gwinnett, Peachtree Ridge, Collins Hill, Gwinnett Online Campus, and GSMST worked together to develop ideas and prototypes focused on the future of the high school experience. Through research, shadowing, surveys, and team meetings, the outstanding sophomores and juniors put together their proposals and pitched their ideas to the showcase organizers, who were so impressed that all three teams were invited to present their findings and ideas on the national level. Special thanks to Congressman Rich McCormick and his team for taking the time to see the presentations! Congratulations to the Suwanee Youth Leaders: Joy Choi, Elizabeth Tsiporkin, Kei Holmes, Ella Hui, Blen Areda, Eden Goode, Yiqi Chen, Jace Lee, Katie Won, Oluwademilayo Akinmade, Alexander Lee, and Jamila Bangura. What a way to make an impact outside the classroom! Joining the three teams were Rebecca Carlisle, Ed.S, GCPS Assistant Director of Recruitment and Retention; Nathan Ballantine, North Gwinnett High School principal; Jimmy Burnette, City of Suwanee mayor; and John Green, leadership consultant and educator. Suwanee keeps bringing home the hardware! In late February, another member of our events team, Amy Doherty, TMP, was awarded the Partners in Excellence award from the Atlanta International Night Market at the AINM Gala. Amy is the Events and Outreach Manager for the City of Suwanee, having been with the city for over 18 years. Amy has led and managed over 600 events during her tenure with the city, enriching the lives of thousands in our great community. “We hosted this gala to thank all of our partners for their support of our mission, but also to bring our partners together in the same way our events bring the community together. With so many like-minded people in attendance, we hoped to spark ideas and conversations that further the AINM mission,” said Jeff Kuo from the AINM Foundation. “The awards were given to those partners who have shown long-time support and gone above and beyond. Without them, our events would not be nearly as good.” Please join us in congratulating Amy and the entire events team at the City of Suwanee!

Town Center on Main is coming to life… literally! The new park has been outfitted with fresh sod, young trees, plants, and other landscaping throughout the space - just in time for spring. Still to come: sand volleyball courts, the Veterans Memorial, reflection pond, and various finishing touches. The park is set to open in late summer 2024. We hope you enjoy the following video by Reeves Young.
