The City of Oak Harbor is a full-service municipality located on northern Whidbey Island - approximately 60 miles north of Seattle, Washington. Incorporated in 1915, the City provides a standard package of municipal services including a municipal marina, fire and police protection, municipal court services, parks and recreation facilities, as well as water, waste water, solid waste, and storm water utility services. The City's vision and missions statement are: Oak Harbor…a vibrant Whidbey Island waterfront community where everyone is welcome and encouraged to thrive. Here is the recap from the January 24, 2024 City Council Workshop meeting: MAYOR Mayor Wright presided over the workshop. ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT UPDATE Economic Development Coordinator Steve McCaslin presented an update on the economic development activities the City is working on internally and externally to achieve City objectives. Followed by a discussion with the Council. DEVELOPMENT SERVICES Flood Damage Prevention Code Amendment Senior Planner Dennis Lefevre presented the objective of incorporating the mandatory and recommended regulatory changes at the state (WDOE) and federal levels (FEMA). The code has not been updated since 2017. The next steps include a public hearing in February, with adoption planned for April. Followed by a discussion with the Council. PUBLIC WORKS UPDATE Public Works Director Steve Schuller and City Engineer Alex Warner presented an update on the department’s projects. Followed by a discussion with the Council ADMINISTRATOR REPORT City Administrator Blaine Oborn provided the monthly report. CITY COUNCIL Mayor Pro Tempore Hizon requested an update or report from the City’s legislative lobbyist at a future meeting.
