About us

Garland is where things are made. Products, careers and opportunities are made here. Friendships that last a lifetime are made here, and generations of families have made this part of Texas their home. As early as the mid-1800s, settlers began arriving in what is now Garland. The pioneers found the black soil ideal for cotton and the communities of Duck Creek and Embree thrived on that crop. In 1886, two railroad lines built depots in the area. Eventually those two communities combined and became Garland, officially incorporated in 1891. Garland enjoys a rich history that has shaped it into the thriving metropolitan-area city that offers its residents and businesses a high quality of life, excellent educational and workforce development opportunities, and is enhanced by community leadership and partners. Garland is proud of its affordable and business-friendly climate.

Garland’s Sanitation Department is working to ensure Garland residences have had at least two debris collections by next Wednesday. This will help us return to our normal schedule, although we anticipate bulk routes will be 1-2 days behind going into the week of July 15th. While staff has done an excellent job serving the citizens of Garland, the additional hours have led to fatigue, necessitating a break. Therefore, this will be our last daily update as we transition back to a normal schedule. Residents experiencing debris issues can contact Customer Service at 972-205-3500 or submit a ticket via eAssist (https://lnkd.in/gY9Pve5x). Contractor crews made significant progress between Wednesday, July 3 and Thursday, July 4. They completed their second pass of Hot Spot 2 and Hot Spot 4, started a collection on Hot Spot 3, and did their first pass of the new Hot Spot 5. Today, they will be finishing their collection on Hot Spot 3 with the potential to begin again on Hot Spot 1. Our goal is for the second pass of all Hot Spot areas to be completed by end of day Saturday. Sanitation crews also made significant progress on these days, reaching around 75% completion of the second pass of Wednesday route areas. Today, they will work the area bounded by: • Lavon • E Buckingham • N Country Club and the area bounded by: • N Glenbrook • W Buckingham • S Shiloh • W Walnut Once this is completed Sanitation crews will begin on the Thursday route collection. To date, we have collected a total of 21,036 tons or 42,072,000 pounds of debris.
