Dunwoody Councilmember Tom Lambert was sworn in as a member of the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) Board of Directors for the 2024-2025 term. Lambert holds a seat as the newly-elected District Three President – East. This year’s Board of Directors was elected and installed during GMA’s Annual Convention in Savannah, which was held June 20 – 25. Lambert is the first from Dunwoody to serve on the GMA Board of Directors. The 63-member board consists of active city officials, primarily mayors and council members, from across the state. GMA’s Board of Directors provides general oversight and guidance to the 536-member organization, adopts governance policies, and advocates for cities’ legislative interests at the state and federal levels. “I am honored and grateful for this opportunity to both represent and advocate for the interests of Dunwoody and all other cities within the district and across the state,” Lambert said. “Decisions made at both the state and federal level can have a tremendous impact on our city. I am proud and excited to provide leadership and a voice on the issues of greatest importance to Dunwoody and other cities throughout Georgia.” In addition, Dunwoody City Council Member Joe Seconder received the Harold F. Holtz Municipal Training Institute Certificate of Recognition during the GMA Annual Convention. The Harold F. Holtz Municipal Training Institute, a cooperative effort of GMA and the University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government, provides a nationally recognized series of training opportunities for city officials. To receive a Certificate of Recognition, a city official must complete 42 hours of training, including at least 18 hours from the required list and the Newly Elected Officials Institute. The training gives leaders a chance to connect and learn from one another. "I am grateful for the opportunity to take part in professional development courses for local elected officials in Georgia since they provide the opportunity to further my commitment to continuous learning to better serve our community,” Seconder explained. “During these courses, I learn best practices for municipal government and network with fellow local elected officials statewide, which helps me address the needs of the citizens of Dunwoody more effectively."
