The CIP is a long-term planning tool that outlines the City’s strategy for funding and completing major infrastructure projects, which often takes years of future planning and occurs over multiple annual budgets. It is more than just the temperature sizzling at the library - a recent summer surge is translating into record attendance. As you walk through the doors of the Patrick Heath Public Library, the immediate cool you feel of the AC is quickly coupled with just how busy the space is this summer. The 30,000-square-foot facility and its jam-packed summer programming have been a huge success with more than 4,200 visitors stopping by in the first full week of June. That is nearly 1,000 more visitors from the same period in 2023 – a 27.6 percent increase.

The City of Boerne Communications Department brought home an award from the annual conference of the Texas Association of Municipal Information Officers. The City won the Award of Honor in the Best Website category, which had no size limitations for cities, thus included both large and small communities across the Lone Star State. Help us in congratulating Robert Taylor, our Digital Managing Editor, who led the project and spent nearly six months working to bring our community a much-improved website. Before you move into your new home or put the finishing touches on a project, Building Inspector Sean Skaggs has already been there, making sure everything is safe and up to code. “When a homeowner buys their house, I feel comfortable when they move into it because I would live in any one of the houses that I've inspected,” Skaggs said. You can learn more about his work and the crucial role it has in ensuring Boerne remains an exemplary Hill Country community by making sure homes and businesses are safe for occupation. The Boerne community, like so many other's across our country, have great respect for the men and women who serve in our military. The admiration and respect is only multiplied for individuals who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. As we enter the month of May, we commemorate those who have died in service to our country. Our traveling memorial for those who are honored in Veterans Plaza will be at various spots in Boerne. On Friday morning, the signs were set up at Boerne City Park. If you are visiting one of our Boerne Parks & Recreation locations and see the signs, please take a moment to learn about those from Boerne and Kendall County who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms.

A part of the success of any organization is being proactive and collaborative -- and that is exactly what happened this week at the City of Boerne. As we have seen over the last few years, the Texas Hill Country has experienced deeper freezes these last couple of years, with multiple days below freezing and temperatures dropping to the single digits. This has led to a significant increase in fire sprinkler pipe breaks and response calls from the Fire Department. On Tuesday, our Boerne Fire Department and Boerne Fire Marshal’s Office held a symposium with property managers to discuss cost effective, code compliant solutions for upgrading freeze protection of fire sprinkler systems to prevent loss, increase safety, and reduce emergency call volumes during critical periods.
