It was an amazing celebration filled with fun, laughter, dancing, music, awareness information and great food! Thank you to all vendors, volunteers, and coordinators! Join us THIS FRIDAY Oct. 4 for Food Truck Friday Turns Pink as we kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month in front of Birmingham City Hall from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Break out your pink and get ready for a day filled with: Medical experts and organizations providing breast cancer resources Delicious food trucks A DJ with a “girl power” playlist Line dancing and mindful breathing And some fun surprises!

    The City of Birmingham Department of Youth Services is excited to announce the pilot launch of the NextGen Student Fellowship, an eight-week professional development program designed for currently enrolled college and graduate students. This unique opportunity offers participants the chance to work alongside city officials and prominent professionals within the Birmingham community, gaining hands-on experience in fields such as education, public administration, social services, and youth development. Eligible applicants must be currently enrolled in college or recently graduated, with a minimum GPA of 2.5. To apply, students can visit www.BhamYouthFirst.org.     We’re thrilled to announce that Day One of our Flu Shot Clinic and Mini Health Benefits Fair was a great success! Free COVID vaccines and flu shots were available for all COB employees covered under the city's benefits plan administered by MedsPLUS Consulting. There were many vendors on hand with informative information from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama, Behavioral Health Systems, Nationwide, New York Life Insurance Company, and Operation HOPE. If you’re a COB employee covered under the city’s benefits plan and missed out, don’t worry—Day Two is coming up on September 26th from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM.     The City of Birmingham is once again teaming up with Birmingham City Schools and the community with a shared goal: enhancing student reading skills. During the 2023-2024 school year, Birmingham City Schools saw a 33 percent increase in 3rd grade reading abilities. To continue the push for ensuring every third grader in the City of Birmingham can read at or above grade level, Page Pals sign-ups are now available! Page Pals Launch Week begins Monday, September 16 with a series of community reading events.
