Today, we join with our community’s brave firefighters, police officers, and students to honor the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001. At La Joya High School’s 9/11 Remembrance Walk/Run, participants are climbing the equivalent of 110 floors — the height of the World Trade Center towers — or walking four laps to commemorate the courage and resilience of the fallen. As we reflect on the lives lost, we also celebrate the spirit of unity and service that binds us all. Exciting things are happening in Avondale! 🌳 We’ve officially broken ground on a brand-new Civic Center Park, right next to the Civic Center Library. This eagerly anticipated project kicked off on September 3rd with a groundbreaking ceremony featuring city officials. Set to open in 2025, the four-acre park will feature shaded reading areas, a playground, walking paths, a ramada picnic area, and an open field for all kinds of activities. Conveniently located across from the newly opened Avondale Aquatic Center, this park will be a fantastic addition to our Civic Center Campus. Stay tuned for more updates as we bring this beautiful space to life! 🌳
